My opinion on him is very mixed. He can show momets of class but also moments of terrible decision making. He never has the confidence to shoot even though he can score screamers, like he did for celtic. He is still young so he can still improve for us and adapt to the premier league better in the next couple of years. Was he worth 5.5 million? Probably not but i think he has the ability to be the Joe Allen of last season, or better. I am desperate for him to score so his confidence can go sky high. Anyone agree?
Difficult to agree with you as you have complained and praised him in the same post. lol But yeah, I think he has great potential and will get better. I actually rate him MUCH higher than Hernandez atm. Whilst Ki make a few bad decisions they are only slightly misplaced passes, and he has been benched a lot as a result...Whilst Henendez has been lashing 50yard passes straight to an opponent on the edge of our 18yrd box. Often I'm not even sure what pass he was "trying." It's clear that Laudrup doesn't think Hernandez has the right mental attitude to withstand a spell on the bench and is trying to get him to "play his way back into form" whereas he obviously feels Ki has a stronger character, and I think I probably agree with that. Also, a figure of £7m is quoted for de Guzman, and I think I rate Ki as a better player anyway, so £5.5m is a fair price...that may even prove to be a bargain in a year or two....?
I really like him. I can understand why some get frustrated, he has flaws. But he is a very good young midfielder who looks classy when he is playing well. Most importantly I don't think we've seen anywhere near the best of him yet, hasn't played with confidence since the first few games...and as Swaninpeace says he is capable of scoring screamers in open play and from free kicks, I believe he's got the potential to be a great crosser of the ball also. I'd put my money on him growing into becoming a very important first team player, as Swaninpeace says, a goal could make a big difference.
I like him too. You need a quick brain and quick feet to play in our team and I'm sure he will grow into the role more next season. I had one his main detractors sitting behind me on Saturday. Every time he got the ball he was giving it large with the "Ki, you're useless" stuff. Needless to say when he planted the ball from a corner onto Michu's head for the goal it went un-noticed and unpraised.
Ki is the most frustrating player in our squad in my opinion. We can see the guy has bundles of quality about him. Its just that he isn't consistent enough. If he can become consistent every week then he could become a very very important player for us. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt given that its his first season in the league having come from the SPL which lets be fair is more of a 1st division league at best bar Celtic and Rangers (even more so now Rangers were kicked out). Also has for more potential/ability than JDG so if it is being rumored we will have to pay around 7 million for him, then 5.5 million for Ki was a good deal that will look like a bargain if he can improve next season in terms of consistency.
Really? Surely Hernandez is more frustrating? Ki is only just 24 and still growing as a player, he also plays centre midfield where misplaced passes are very noticeable (particularly when playing alongside Mr. Consistent - Leon). Pablo on the other hand is meant to be pretty much the finished article, has 4 Spain caps and is playing in a "more forgiving" position.... I know this thread isn't really meant to compare the two and doing so is unfair on both, but saying Ki is the most frustrating player in the squad seems a bit harsh imo. He is getting quite a lot of unwarranted flack I feel. Aswan - next time you hear that have a word! I hate people like that in the stands. We've always been such a football-savvy, patient group of fans, would be a BIG shame to lose that now we are in the big-time. I go to a few Norwich games and they have so many whining fans it's depressing.
He was worth it from the influx of investment from Korea alone and has probably more than paid for himself. That coupled with he is a very talented player who will only improve the more he plays and the more experience he gains. He is without doubt a PL standard player. So for me a very good and shrewd signing.
I only label Ki as frustrating because we can see the quality he possess its just that he is too inconsistent. As for Hernandez, I personally ain't fully convinced on him. Had a few good games before his injury but since his comeback, has been poor to be frank and his performance of late have become the norm whereas Ki can play well one minute and poor the next.
Ki will be well worth his £5.5 million price tag in a few years. Remember, he has jumped from what I would class a "terriible" league, to the Premier League. Add to that our style of play, and he was always going to take time to adapt. Class player, who wil get better,
He is worth mega money for us in his home land. he is the David beckham of Asian football and the most followed player and biggest fan club in his country....not a bad footballer too, He is worth more to us in revenue than any of our players including michu.....
Dai that's why I think we will have a Korean sponsor next season instead of 32Red. I bet they will pay big bucks to sponsor us, especially with Ki in our side.
