If Di Canio was an open Muslim would the press be saying he was a terrorist?

If he was a Communist would they be saying he was Joseph Stalin?

If he was a black football manager with right wing views would anything be said?

In other words, what is all the ****e about?

He isn’t a member of any political party but has right wing political views? So what? So will millions of other people in high profile jobs and such like. He doesn’t go around organising political rallies or marching at extremist far right gatherings? He isn’t forcing his doctrine on anyone?

Why the far is left so up in arms about this? Are they honestly saying that a man is not entitled to a different political stance to them? I find that far more worrying that they want to suppress democracy and enforce their political will on to SAFC and PDC himself. Apparently if he has to come out and condemn his right wing political view or he isn’t wanted?

Freedom of speech, political support and religion its seems is dead in the UK today and this is the real issue we should be debating not one mans opinion.

This media circus has appalled and disgusted me to be honest and I am a left of centre political animal as well.

Cest. If David Milliband had stayed and got on with his highly paid fifteen day a year job then none of this would have happened, his decision to resign whether right or wrong has been the blue touch paper for this as PDC didn't have any problems along these lines whilst at Swindon and whilst playing for WHU and Sheff Wed.
This is the British media at their worst, like dogs with a bone, it matters not to them that this story should be about our fight for Premiership survival as in their view all this other sh1te makes for a much better story, a very sad indication as to how the media operate in this country today.

    Good post mate.

You know the Koran say's that any other religion is a threat and should face opposition, something that a very small minority of
Islam extremists follow with their life, however, the vast majority of good Muslims have moved with the times and follow the good moral codes that all relions entrust to their followers.

From what I read about fascists I found quite intriguing is how industrious and united they are. Loyalty is second to none and their work ethic is quite incredible. All the things that PDC will no doubt will let fuel his fascist pride. It doesn't mean he follows old outdated views that will no doubt still consume the extreme fascist minority's. I think the amount of black friends he has proves his views aren't dated and ignorant.

Let the media label and let the ignorant believe what they read, the vast majority of us know different.

That's what the far left & a lot of the unions have always been like marra.
My union is Solidarity. I ****ed off the GMB when they refused to represent a lad who was sacked for being a member of the BNP & whilst I'm not saying I agree with them, they are a perfectly legal political party & a factory worker should not have lost his job over that.

Especially when a Russian lass continually spouted the most racist stuff I've heard in years & wasn't even reprimanded about it.

The Beeb news has a link to a German newspaper's website saying his appointment is a setback in the fight against racism in football!

There was less fuss when Theresa May lost the government's attempt to kick out Abu Quatada, who IS a self-confessed terrorist.

Is this country going mad, or what?

I couldn't care less if Hitler, Stalin and Usama Bin Laden teamed up to give us a good team and stuff the mags next week. Idiots going on about people's ideals. You are allowed to be anything here... even a **** like Abu Qatada... now there's somebody the journalists should be attacking, but they won't, as they're scared of having a reprisal attack!!!!!

As a life long socialist I am at a complete loss to understand the way some people are carrying on about this, he is a football man for ****s sake, and as for the miners, give them their banner back, we'll put up a statue of PDC if he has any success here lets face it.
I can honestly say that I am more excited about this appointment than I was about O'Neils, at least he has a bit of fire in his belly and if he can instill a little bit of it into the players then we might get somewhere.
I am absolutely disgusted at these people that call themselves Sunderland supporters who are slagging him off, especially you Froggy, get a grip man and think about the football.

In all my life I can't remember a single time when a manager has been questioned about his political beliefs..They have basically jumped on a few cherry picked snippets that was said many years ago to try to portray him as the love child of Mussolini! And how dare a representative of the NUM threaten to remove the banner from the stadium over this media based witch hunt..That banner is a monument to the people who worked and died in the colliery, and I include my own father in that number, and for one man to threaten to remove it, is itself a dictatorial act which I believe is unacceptable..

There are as many atrocities been carried out in the name of communism and religious fundamentalists (from all persuasions btw) yet no right mined person would suggest ever socialist is a Stalin, or church goer a potential terrorist.

This whole thing is ridiculous. I've never known the like.

I have swung my total 100% support behind PDC now and I think it will really unite This club not divide it.

There isn't one single person who has come forward and called him racists or provided evidence his politica5 views have harmed or attacked anyone.

Not one single ex professional he played with. Wouldn't you expect that at least one would now have contacted the press to say if they had been?

Clark Carlisle said it perfectly this morning. A black footballer and PFA representative said this media circus was wrong about PDC. If had even read up on what fascism actually is. Just as all Muslims are not terrorists and all communists are not Joe Stalin, Kim Jong-un, or Mao Zedong; PDC is not Adolf bloody Hitler or Attila the Hun. Jesus this is so dumb.

He is a family man and sportsman and this persecution is so un-British. What happened to freedom of speech and freedom of political and religious ideals.

Did we just become Burma over night or North Korea/China?

Good OP Cest. Agree with all you've written.

Wasn't it Oscar Wilde who said "There's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about"

    Or was it Monty Python!

Looking forward to the meeting between PDC and The Frog on the Tyne.

I do think it's hypocritical that the press are only taking an interest in his political views now, especially since it was not like he went under the radar at Swindon but the press instead ignored the issue and indulged in his fiery character and all the stories it created. However I don't believe his political views are totally irrelevant and I'd personally be very uncomfortable with having someone who used the Nazi salute and subsribes to some of Mussolini's ideologies but that's me, my opinion and I don't have a problem with others who differ in their views of him. Funnily enough, my tolerance of him has probably risen during his time at Swindon because nothing was ever made of it so you start to think that maybe you're overreacting so mostly I think the media's handling of it stinks, I've come to accept the Di Canio's involved in football in the UK.

As for those that are disassociating themselves with the club, I think it's understandable and they're well within their rights to, just as you are well within your rights not to make an issue of his political ideologies and continue to support your club.

Of course it would of been brought up. This is the premier league, spot light is on. Look at the media coverage over the stadium naming.

I always enjoy your posts when you pop over for a look mate.

I've had Talksport on all day & the question was asked, "why no fuss at Swindon & the guy said it didn't matter there as they were a lower league club!!!!!!!!
    How ****ing hypocritical is that?
