Mussie, Premiership, Arsenal 1 Hull City 2 followed by Spurs 0 Hull City 1. Didn't you think they were big games, all the Tigers fans there (& I was one) thought they were.
I've been a city fan since 1968 and I couldn't get a ticket for either. What %age who were there that day were there for the first game of this season. Those games were not big, just a flash of unreality that eventually broke the club!
You were very unlucky, as far as I was aware, there were only the Man United and Liverpool games that were massively oversubscribed in the first season. In the second season, no games were oversubscribed at all.
Being the gambler and adrenaline junkie I am (£10 on city to win the leave at 35/1) I say **** it, I'll opt for the tight and exiting finish, us to beat Watford tonight and Watford to tonk Cardiff on Saturday would be brill. 3 teams fighting it out for the top 2 right down to the last day and we beat Cardiff last day to pip them to the title, Watford also lose leaving Cardiff in 2nd so we can all have a big promotion party and a great atmosphere
i was also unsuccessful trying to get tickets for the infamous boxing day game at Man City, Everton and others. The only games i got to in the premiership were the likes of Bolton, Wigan, Stoke, et. al. I ll be honest, they were as near to football reality as I wanted to be in the premiership. daft thing is, due to my personal associations, I was able to see City in the Premiership at Old Trafford twice!
Hull City vs Man Utd which could have determined our fate as to which league we were in the next season, ok we lost and still stayed up but we could lose tonight and still go up. Both games therefore are as big as each other. Arguably this one is bigger given its important for both sides not just one, but this is certainly the biggest game since then, which was the premier league btw
as i remember, at the game against man Utd you mention, more people were trying to watch, or listen to the Aston Villa vs newcastle game than were even bothered about the game at the circle. We got hammered by man Utd's thrid team that day as I remember it? Oh the joys!!!
True, but in terms of pre match build up that game was as big as this one is. The reason people were more bothered about Villa Newcastle was because as you say, we were getting battered and knew we had to rely on that result. That sort of thing always happens on the last game of the season if there's something to play for anyway.
A massive massive game.. A win and we all know what it does.. I don't think we can underplay how big it is.. 7 point gap going into the final 6 games will give us massive leway
Cheers mate. This game has so many angles it's impossible to predict the outcome. Our issues are in attack and theirs are in defence. So will either manager alter things to compensate for these deficiencies? We would love the 3 points, but in reality a draw could still see that 7 point gap open up if we beat Boro and Cardiff beat them in the following games. So how will that effect SB's thinking? Will he go for it or keep it tight? Zola simply has to try and get the win so all out attack should be a given. However he is frustrated with his defence and few managers would set up a predominantly attacking team to visit the 2nd placed team in the division. Tonight could be so tight that it comes down to the managers and in my opinion Bruce's experience, calmness and tactical nous has been as goood as a twelfth man since the season started heating up. Of the two managers I think we have the advantage, but that's not to say Zola is a mug. The other huge factor will be luck and no-one can effect that - although I do even have my knackers crossed at the moment.
I wish - I would give your right arm to be there I am doing my best to be at the Smoggies game and away at Barnsley
That Man U game was more important than tonight. The pre match atmosphere was something else. Never seen people get behind the team like they did that day with flags etc Never saw a Man U fan all day.
