Serious question ... not at the WUM!

I don’t understand the furor over DiCanio's appointment to the Sunderland job - when DiCanio was appointed manager at Swindon or even touted for bigger jobs whilst at Swindon, I don’t recall the press running with stories about WW2 veterans being outraged etc.

So what if he holds/previously held fascist political views... what does that mean for management ability.

To say you hold a political viewpoint doesn't mean you believe/standby every opinion expressed under that "tag" does it?

David Milliband didn't quit over him joining Swindon though (which is basically what created the furore)!

Can you remember who, though? Everyone knows Swindon went straight up as Champions, but the name of the sponsor doing the right-on grandstanding is........?

    Nope - I don't know either.

Think it's the GMB you're looking for.

A leading trade union has decided to end its sponsorship of Swindon Town in protest at the appointment of Paolo Di Canio as manager.

The GMB said the former Italy international, who was named manager yesterday, had previously voiced right-wing views of which it strongly disapproved. The union's local branch is believed to have paid up to £4,000 to the club this season as part of its sponsorship deal.

"Our local branch has decided to end its association with Swindon following the appointment of Paolo Di Canio," said a GMB spokesman. "He has openly voiced support for [Benito] Mussolini so it beggars belief that Swindon could have appointed him, especially given the multi-ethnic nature of the team and the town."

Saw the former Swindon chairman interviewed on BBC 24 hour news yesterday.

He said the withdrawal of the sponsorship cost the club £50!!

I was saying exactly the same to a mate of mine yesterday. All the footage is old and there is no new news here other than the fact he is now a Prem manager.
By the way, love the Avatar mate, one of the best albums of all time.

Milliband is the prime motivator for this media feeding frenzy.

If he had just sneaked away to his newly acquired high flying, huge salaried position in the US and hadnt tried to be a clever **** and get some media mileage out of the event then this would have been a non starter.

Talk about biting the hand that fed you and if Ellis has had an input into him getting this position then I truly hope he is undermining him now behind the scenes, just as he has **** all over Ellis Short this weekend. Highly powerful and wealthy men are ruthless and dont take to being double crossed very easily.

I'd love to see Miliband fall from grace now and come a cropper and this from a FORMER supporter of the man.

Miiliband would have resigned from SAFC in any case as he was off to make millions from a U S charity He just used Di Canio and his apparent politics as an excuse to jack in while giving the impression he was THE principled Labour MP just to stir things up-he is no friend of SAFC
