On such small matters the wheel of football fortune turns. No one wants to see Clint Hill rolling around clutching his face, but it would have sent Berbatov to an early shower and given us a huge advantage. He missed a huge opportunity which the likes of Wolves and Norwich exploited fully last season at the cost of Joey Barton and Djibril Cisse. In the final analysis, like the whole season, we just weren't savvy enough.
Berbatov runs up to Hill - arms raised and pushed the player full square in the chest. I advocate falling over - perhaps add a bit of drama with a Paul Alcock stumble - then staying down. Let the referee decide whether that was serious foul play.
It shouldn't be and people shouldn't stand for it. Football never used to be this way and people should get abused for behaviour like this.
We'd have been better off if Clint hadn't played in the first place. Or against Villa. Don't get me wrong, I love his enthusiasm, honesty and 110% attitude but the fact is he's not good enough or quick enough at this level.
Berbatov IMO should have gone for that push based on what's happened this season but he didn't and its now not worth talking about ... We need to rip Wigan to bits and I concede look at a few other results to go our way ... we need some luck and its coming our way
What about the two Fulham players that deliberatly ran into Hill trying to get him sent off?? I do not advocate cheating but it was Hill's honesty that kept Berbatov on the pitch but it didn't stop him or his teamates trying to cheat afterwards and that is the dilema because in hindsight I wish he had feigned injury. In some counties it is seen as good play and applauded to roll around in agony to get someone sent off, personally it drives me away from the game!
As I said elsewhere, its a probably red if he goes down and a yellow if he doesnt, somehow the ref didnt give anything. As Flan said, they targeted Hill by getting the ball and running into him to try and get a 2nd yellow. The only cheat we have is Mbia and he does it in the midfield. We could have cheated our way to 10 more points if we did what every other club does. As Metallica once said, sad but true.
