Don't take it personally Mate, a lot of it is Celebrity culture, the media has a lot to do with it, mainly mischief making.
I will take an interest in any team that plays in the same league as my team, it's good to know their strengths and weaknesess, and helps give an informed and balanced opinion.
As I've said I've been watching Paolo for some time now, I even suggested whilst he was still at Swindon that he may be a suitable manager at Leeds, (don't think it's happening with Warnock <laugh>) but hey ho, he resigned, how many managers do that these days, most wait to be sacked and get the pay off.

Just listened to that d*** mcguire on press review on sky news...a life long sunderland fan apparently !!!... apparently the whole of sunderland is up in arms... Durham miners want their flag back .. veterans groups are boycotting the club.
Am I living in the same world ? I only see sympathy and a willingness to give him a chance - he is not racist that is clear. Mrqueer says the club has handled the matter appallingly ? This would be no news if his mate Dmillie had just left for his new job quietly instead of lookign for his 15 minutes of fame.
Blown right out of proportion.. I keep hearing some idiot professor talk about how many people in sunderland died in the war, as though PDC was involved.. what on earth are we coming to when we cant forgive and forget and move on?

It's weird that that the trendy lefties don't seem to extend freedom of speech to those with whom they disagree. We might not agree with his politics, but WTF has that to do with offering him the job? The nazi salute was stupid, but he was playing up to the Lazio fans in the heat of the moment and he has explained all that ages ago.

On average attendance we are, in prestige we are no where near just like you tbh

You have the 14th highest average attendance we have the 33rd but even we are higher than Benfica (65000 seater ground) Roma and Lazio (75,000 seater ground). Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_attendances_of_European_football_clubs#cite_note-2Bundesliga-4

I think we both do very canny and both were from last year so your league position helped a lot (and ours probably didnt) but for being pretty crap for the best part of 40 years or at least winning 0 between us in that time, i think those are pretty bloody impressive, either that or the likes of Roma/lazio are dire.

You are quite correct, it's bollox.
Don't remember this media reaction when he was at Swindon or West Ham.
****o journo's & they wonder why paper sales are falling.

So I suppose no **** is allowed to sign a German now then because of what they did in 1938?

Considering neither of us have won anything of real importance for years, we have marvellous support. But both clubs are a long way off being anywhere near the biggest in Europe. In fact, we'll see on Thursday against Benfica just how far away from the elite we are.

Which is why he mentioned attendance and like i said Roma and even Lazio are bigger than both of us, but their attendances do not show that at all, even though they have the olympic stadium to play in they cant even 1/2 fill it unless they play each other. We both get bigger average attendances than Juventus and PSV as well. We have been **** and our average attendances are only 10,000 below capacity others are 20,000 to 50,000 below capacity and they are doing OK and even topping their leagues.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me and my staff to have a chance to work for one of the biggest clubs not only in England, but in Europe,” Di Canio told the club's official website.

“To work for a club which has over 40,000 people when we play at home is amazing.

There is more to being a 'big club' than having 40,000 attendances though (us mags should know, we've have it rammed down our throats long enough). You've got to finish high up in your league consistently, qualify for Europe and actually win some trophies. Something that we don't do very well in the North East I'm afraid (win trophies that is).

How can Sunderland be one of the biggest clubs in Europe when they don't even play in European competitions?

EDIT: And my club doesn't fare much better to be honest!

Kevin McGuire? Lefty tosser.

Bet you any amount you want that if Di Canio was a openly supporting Communist he wouldn't be saying he was Stalin in disguise and likely to murder people in the dead of night. Like all extreme left or right wingers, they want freedom of speech so long as its their persuasion you support? You are not allowed different political views otherwise you're an extremist and a danger to society. Its how the political classes keep hold of the reigns of power and stop any kind of dissent amongst the voting masses.

Hypocrisy is alive and well in the British Press and we all know what a bastion of high moral standards they stand for don't we?

So what do you think a new manager should say about his new club?

I ****ing gutted to be here in this club that wins **** all for 40 years and probably never will? Its called PR and PArdew to be honest pours out as much sickening guff as any manager in the Western Hemisphere.

Who gives a **** how big we are or not we have not won a ****ing bean for 40 years in May. For your lot its even longer. We are both a pile of **** in the real world but have unbelievable fans that keep supporting it despite that fact. That makes us both huge clubs, if not successful ones.

I thought Pardew would get a mention.

I bet it's Pardew's fault that David Milliband resigned.

I bet it's even Pardew's fault that MON got sacked.

Or that the Durham Miners want their flag back.

And I bet it's even Pardews fault that Harry Rednapp has a face like a saggy bloodhound.

This can be debated though i wont go through every single team that qualified for the CL but Linfield/Shamrock rovers did for the qualifying rounds, they have more European games than us under their belts but for me we are lot bigger club than them in Europe (as a club not through europe if you get me).

Obviously we have a very long way to go to match the Man United and Barcas of this world even Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in European competition but i would say we were bigger than 60% of the teams that qualify for the CL (maybe not group stages but definately those that qualify).

It is basically a lot harder for us to get into Europe than it is for a lot of teams in there and the Europa league just doesnt seem to be worth the bother compared to the champions league even though I wish we were in it.
