    Clowns Claim Half Wit.

Just came across this on NUFC.com, thought it might have already been metioned on the forum but can't find anything about it. Thought most would be interested so here it is.

Paolo Di Canio has been confirmed as the new Pied Piper of Pennywell and will take charge of the mackems for their remaining seven games of the season.

He will do so without injured duo Lee Cattermole and Steven Fletcher and the self-confessed fascist will now be without highly-paid mackem apologist and board member, David Milliband, who has resigned after the appointment.

On an otherwise grim day, the mackems provided some light relief on Saturday by losing at home to Manchester United, falling into the relegation dogfight and then sacking manager, Martin O'Neill.

The fact that it was the ample thigh of ex-Magpie, Titus Bramble, providing the own goal that caused O'Neill's final demise just made it even more hilarious.

Even by his gloomy standards, the "boyhood" mackem sympathiser had been noticeably glum in recent press interviews and although the 0-1 loss wasn't unexpected, the limp surrender may have been the final straw for owner Ellis Short.

Former smoggy supremo and part-time Dutchman Steve McClaren was initially linked with the post but within 24 hours, the name of Paolo Di Canio had come to the fore and the Italian had been sighted on wearyside.

I fear for Sunderland. His politics are of little concern football wise, as even the liberally inclined managers are fascist when it comes to their job, they have to be.

However, what is of concern is that DiCanio is and always has been an idiot, and a vocal idiot at that. I see people are saying he'll give them "heart" and "passion". There's a difference between giving the media a field day with some controversial ramblings, and instilling fight in a football team. I think he'll actually end up dividing the dressing room, causing massive rifts at every level of the club, and leave under a cloud after a very short reign. Worse still, tactically I think he'll be ruthlessly exposed as just another has-been who has progressed at lower levels because of their previous influence and fading aura. In short (no pun intended), if I was forced to put money on it, I'd say Sunderland are well and truly DOOONNNNNEDDDD.

I genuinely can't believe this utter catastrophe of an appointment is going ahead, but Sunderland are desperate to put their name on the map, and installing a raging lunatic as coach who'll whinge and scream every three seconds will get them noticed. They're like the real gutter X factor wannabes threatening to ruin Whitney and Mariah for the next generation with an awful rendition, but eventually they will only permeate the memory for a fleeting moment. Genuinely sad that a fine football club, whatever the rivalry, has come to this.

The funny thing is, when this all goes pear-shaped, because he's one of the out-spoken sorts, he'll have another job lined-up shortly after and he'll attempt the hustle all over again.

I wish them the best (as long as it doesn't cost us), but boy am I thankful we haven't done that. Pardew over DiCanio every day of the week!

I think he might work in the short term and keep them up. It all depends how he approaches the battle. If he goes in upsetting everyone, they'll crumble. I suspect he'll motivate them to survival. Long term though he'll be a car crash waiting to happen. Just his personality unfortunately for them. He likes confrontation and can't step back.

Even the Manchester police joined in with the ground staff and local traders in saying we were the best away supporters they'd had.

There was nowhere near as many coaches on as there was for the Wigan game, but a lot of regs had travelled down by train.
