i thought it was a very poor game. we could have played another 24 hours and not score today or create a proper chance. york had the chances to win... 1st half poor collection by mildenhall who dropped the ball to a york player who had an open goal who put it wide and 2nd half 2 great saves by mildenhall. o'toole was way off form today. harrison was very quiet. didnt know richards was playing. thought hammer improved us. it was freezing and quiet today for a good attendance. but a point is better than no point :)

    John on York City result

John Ward admits there was not much quality on show during today’s game.

However the manager was pleased with the attitude and effort shown by his players.

He said: “The game got going, but not with a lot of quality. There was a huge amount of effort and good attitude form both teams, but nobody was able to find the breakthrough.

“I have got no grumbles about that. York City were really resolute and strong, particularly in the first half, and in the second half they troubled my keeper, and he was up to scratch and dealt with it.

“I talk to them about attitude, effort and ability and it was the third one we fell down on today. The first two were right up there. We didn’t find the ability enough.

“I don’t deny York their point, if they are going to keep themselves in a safe position they need to do that for the rest of their games. I didn’t expect anything different from one of Nigel’s teams.”

The manager made three substitutions to try and change the game and send the crowd home happy.

He said: “I did everything I could, I put three strikers on to try and lift the game going forward at different stages of the second period. I won’t pull myself to pieces tonight.

“I think I have done my best, and I think the players have done their best, but when you get a crowd of over 7000 in a holiday period you want to try and win 2 or 3-0 and have everyone going home singing our praises.

“But we have done that on other days and they will stay with us because they know the attitude and effort of the team were right there.”

And goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall picked up the match of the match accolade for keeping Rovers in the game.

John said: “My goalkeeper has had to make a couple of really good saves, so they perhaps had the edge in terms of testing the goalkeeper, so I will take the point and head to Dagenham to try and win that game.

“Steve is a good goalkeeper and he is wise, he is mentally tough and has been around the block a bit. He learns very quickly and gives the back four some real strength and confidence.”

And the manager is pleased with what he continues to see from his team.

“We have to keep trying to be what we want to be, and the days we are not my job is to decide whether we stick or twist and today I twisted on three different forward players to try and find that extra, but it didn’t happen.

“They are good lads, and they continue to be reliable people. Even on days when it is not going our way, they have been extremely reliable in what they are trying to do.

“I have not seen anyone gone missing, and I haven’t seen any heads go down. They are disappointed they have not won the game.

“Nobody wins every game and you have to deal with what comes your way and we have to go and try and be strong at Dagenham. That one point today is a better point for us than York City.”

Shame about Anyinsah, thought he was 1 of our better players vs York. Hammer came on Vs York and did well so I can see why he will start today.

Richards played vs York with tonsillitis so I guess he will miss out starting due to this. Good to see Tounkara start and get a chance.
