Okay, I feel the need to rant. Read this article on this morning as NHS was trending on Twitter.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/voices...ally-murdered-by-tory-ideologues-8555503.html

Where to begin? I think the amount of hyperbole and ridiculousness of the left-wing media is frankly offensive. The media are so bloody blinkered that they seem to automatically assume that the private sector companies are full of evil, unethical, greedy companies that care only about profits and treat customers and patients like rubbish, meanwhile the public sector is the bastion of equality and fairness and 100% efficient. Likewise, they seem to think any form of privitsation will cause the NHS to implode and they use the G4S farce before the Olympics as an example, because there's never any problems with the public sector. Seriously, that kind of blinkered bias is frankly pathetic. I'm not saying the NHS reforms may not have a negative impact, but it really pisses me off that certain media outlets are so completely blinkered and so one-sided that they completely ignore any attempts at being impartiality. At least the BBC, for example, cover both sides of the argument generally speaking. How the **** can we have a sensible debate when you have papers screaming about "another sickening assault on the poor by the rich" (yes because clearly David Cameron sits in Number 10 late at night plotting ways to make poor people suffer because that's just how he rolls) and "services run by the profiteering vultures circling ahead", going back to my previous point about the private sector companies clearly being parasites. In fact, let's completely get rid of the private sector as clearly ever company is evil and completely ignoring the other side of the argumen. Let's nationalise the cafes, the cinemas, the publishing companies, every single private school, the factories, the IT companies, the PR firms, the consultancy companies. After all, private sector companies only care about money.

I'd certainly describe my self as more left than right but I'm not so blinkered as to believe that the right has nothing to offer.

And that's my rant over. Thank you for your time.

The NHS ain't what it used to be. All about people in suits meeting targets rather than men and women out on the front line providing care.

Sorry PL but there are certain things which should remain sacrosanct. It has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with morals. And, for the record, that very much IS how Cameron rolls. You'd need heavy duty blinkers and a very poor understanding of our national spending to think otherwise.

People are talking about it being the dismantling of the NHS which I think is just scaremongering. There's no reason why the private sector could not contribute to the overall efficiency of the NHS. It's not like people are suddenly going to have to start paying at the point of use.

And you seriously think Cameron is some kind of Doctor Evil type? Most of what the the government are doing in terms of austerity is based on established economic theories, namely the idea of neoliberalism. It's not some kind of campaign against the poor. These theories are the kind of theories which underpin the policy of multilateral organisations such as the IMF, the World Bank, etc and precede the current government by decades, they've also been used in many, many countries, sometimes successfully, sometime not so. So while you may not agree with austerity, there is an intellectual argument in favour of it. You don't think the welfare budget might perhaps be a bit out of hand for example?

Yep, I like that too, and I'm not a great fan of football management games. One could take a club from its first beginnings to present day.

It would take a bloody long time though. In about 18 months of playing the same game, I've managed to get through about 40 seasons. At that pace, it'd take about five years to get from 1888 to present!

Some sort of Hedge fund is required?

What are your views on the top end tax cut? A million a year+ wage earners are now better off by more than most of us earn in a year, furthermore if they have a massive house their council tax is no more than that of a large town house.

While those who allegedly don't use all the rooms in their council properties face a cut in benefit.

There was a guy on South Today whose wife is critically disabled and has to sleep in the second room rather than with her husband as she's in so much pain. Because they are married the "Bedroom tax" assumes they use the same bedroom and so their benefit is cut now. I personally feel that we are living with one of the most wicked PM's of modern times and when the C of E gets in on the act you better believe it baby.

I'm watching The Premiership Years on SS4.

It's the 1993/94 season, Alan Ball just said "of course we can stay up" after beating Liverpool 4-2 at The Dell.

I can see the logic behind that. The argument is that by cutting the top end tax rate, this will encourage business leaders and entrepreneurs from throughout the world to come over here, live and invest in the UK, for example by setting up businesses. This in turn will help to create jobs, getting more people into work (and therefore paying tax) which'll stimulate the economy. That's the theory at least. Whether that would happen in practice perhaps, I do not know but I'd like to think that the government would have conducted research into the impact of this.

Yes, I agree that is completely wrong and this tax should take into consideration factors like disability. My understanding was that it had been adjusted to take into account disability, but I could be wrong. The problem is politicians are not very good at looking at the bigger picture at times and recognising that a one-size fits all approach usually doesn't work and for legislation such as this, it often seems to result in it adversely impact particular groups because they seem to have difficultly thinking through these things. I don't think this is anything new tbf.

Nope they haven't adjusted it, all they have done is change it for child minders. I think the bedroom tax is a absolute ****ing disgrace.

The rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.

I know one girl who has two children, she is a single parent but works. One of the children is disabled yet because the children are of the same age and sex she now has to pay bedroom tax. She is already receiving food parcels and doesn't eat many days just so her children can.
