My thoughts precisely. There's an actual opportunity to take a topic of genuine discussion on morals vs on pitch success and where you draw a line and instead it's a load of squabbley knicker wetting.

There's some very intelligent and educational posts on the Sunderland board ATM. I've certainly learned a lot.

Di Canio has stated many times he is not racist so I see no moral problem with his far right politics, especially with his Rome/Lazio background.

We had Fabio Capello as England manager who also had admiration for General Franco and we had Wayne Brown in our promotion team who voted BNP.

If we can tolerate Alex Ferguson's extreme socialism why shouldn't we tolerate some non racist right wing views in the game, its just a broad spectrum of society, he was OK for Swindon so why not Sunderland, Milliband has been undemocratic and had no need to resign over this.

I've made my feelings quite clear on the amount of OT threads we have on here. Mostly though, they're harmless. I was singling this ****ty thread out because of the clear political axe grinding and more boring rhetoric from the usual online lefties.

I hope that, when you write 'lefties', you're not including me? I'm an anarchist and, thus, beyond politics....:emoticon-0105-wink:

Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me." Martin Niemoller

I did raise the point of his political leanings on this very board recently - well before he was appointed at Sunlan - so it never was good enough in my eyes. I asked why instead of making him a media darling hasn't a journalist asked him about his Il Duce tattoo? But I cant find said post, strangely.

What exactly are PdC's supposed political views and who's Il Duce?

Can't say I care the slightest about even our own politics, nevermind other countries...

Miliband is off to the USA soon so it's an empty gesture.

And being part of the political class, I'm sure he's fraternised with people at Westminster who have far-right views.

    He's a hypocrite.

But that's the whole point- he's already taken his ball home re being an MP and now he just uses this di Canio episode as an excuse for some grandstanding!

Maybe the Sunderland fans can sing a few verses of the Horst Wessel song, to make him feel welcome!!!

I think you're getting mixed up on threads, I raised my points about Di Canio's political leanings well in advance of the tattoo thread but I can't find it.
