They need to support him. The mess at Chelsea is a perfect example of what happens when you don't. Having said that, I really hope he never ends up at Saints.

I don't think we have to worry about that, Cortese has shown more of an inclination towards the intelligent type of manager, as opposed to the crazed lunatic variety.

Personally I think Di Canio is just about the best appointment Sunderland could have made, they need someone to inject belief into those players and put a serious rocket up their arses. If Di Canio can't do that, then I don't think anyone would be able to.

Really? From up here it appears that he will have the backing of the vast majority of our fans..
The fans stuck by MON until the end, but the truth is we have been God damned awful this season, and something needed to change..

I didn't say the majority tho did I?, a lot is more then a few which it is. In the position you are in with so few games left I think he may do something.

I wouldn't want him any where near Saints, not because of his beliefs but the way he acts is ****ing annoying. But can see why you gave him a chance, it just depends on how your players react to his over the top attitude.

I also agree with O'Neill he looks like a manager from the old days, who couldn't adapt to how football is now. It's a shame as I have always liked him, but I now feel it's time he retires.

I'd be happy if I were a Sunderland fan, as with 7 games to go, he could provide that spark to breath life back into an under performing, lackluster Sunderland side. However I wouldn't be that pleased to have him signed up to a 2 1/2 year deal.

If memory serves he got off to a bad start at Swindon and got into a few fights with players.
The success of this appointment will all be down to the attitude of the Sunderland players. They showed with the start MON had that they can galvanise themselves.

I can't predict the outcome but for the outsider it will be entertaining and he is a character that the media will love for a quote.

Its totally dependent on the players reaction to the manager it was always going to be. Hes got such little time left and no option to change the squad he needs an instant reaction. Its all well and good acting like he does with L2/1 players premier league players may not take it so well. Could be a stroke of genius though, we will only tell at the end of the season.

Glad he's not our manager. I'm sure he keeps the fans amused as many think losing your rag equates to passion...but I'm not convinced this will be effective in the long term in the PL. May be effective in the short term which is all that's worrying Sunderland at the moment.

Probably makes more sense than the like for like swap of McDermott for Adkins, but then Sunderland have a reasonable chance of staying up whereas Reading don't.

Wash your mouth out Fran! How can you suggest Adkins is not a step up on McDermott.

Every week the bald gentlemen would bore us with his monotone press conferences. Even after some of the dramatic results reading enjoyed it was a snooze fest as he talked.
Mr Adkins will Tigger this squad into life.

This will end in tears. I am staggered that MON was sacked although I was surprised at how poorly he did there. I think he won 13 out of 50-odd games. Di Canio is not really an improvement and whilst he will be good value for money, Sunderland are doomed in my opinion because they have such a difficult run in and have lost Fletcher.

Allegedly the decision to sack MON coincided with the commencement of sales for the season tickets for 2013/14 and the SAFC board were worried that there would not be much demand due to the poorquality of football played under O'Neill.

The media will be hoping they stay up so they can have Di Canio in the premier league next season in a similar way they do to Redknapp.

Completely undecided on this appointed, don't think any change is good so close to the end but a manager of Di Canios style can have a quick impact.

Don't see why they waited til after the Utd game to do it though. If they did it after their previous game he would've had 2 extra weeks preparing with the team.
