Commentators on this side of the pond think Coutinho should be subbed and Sturridge in....... meaning leaving Downing on.

Again, hard to even get upset as I have seen this all before and it is nothing new unfortunately. Wouldnt even mind a diamond 4 in the middle of hendo, lucas, gerrard, cout (as the tip) and then Sturridge and Suarez. Highly doubt we will see something like that though.

 

Poor 1st half apart from 1st 15, I dont think Ive ever seen a team defend balls in the air as bad as we do

Actually, I think there would be a much bigger case for swapping Suarez with Sturridge. Suarez is ineffective today... let's see how he does after half time.

Neither Downing nor Lucas doing anything useful on field today. Can't see what value they bring yo this game.

 

He's nowhere near sharp enough yet and that means the same result as when Allen plays. Opposition just pass around the one player in front of our back 2 with acres of space around him.

Henderson is quite obviously still that fragile confidence player. Got dropped (rightly or wrongly) after playing very well and bang! Back to the tentative dude just running around in circles.

Downing takes on his man when he should hold up play & holds up play when he should break with pace.

Second half improvement will happen though.

Lucas is covering space well, but is struggling against their big players and missplacing the ball too much. Poor game from him so far. Our defense is so poor at dealing with big players or high balls it's not even funny. People on this forum still rate Agger? He really isn't that good. Jamie can't handle Benkeke.

The team definitely need a kick up the arse at half time, they can't walk this game.

Carrager is having a mare, Benteke is too strong for him to handle. And Lucas looks awful as well. I think Sturridge should come in for Downing and play in the wing.

And Suarez had a tough chance though, i think it was a difficult angle to get a shot in, i thought he tried to nutmeg the keeper.

 

Id go 442 with Hendo tucked in at RM ,Couts LW,and LS,DS up front, Downing off
