SUNDERLAND FC HAVE SACKED MARTIN O'NEIL What is it with teams sacking managers while the season is still going. The latest one is with 8 games remaining all a bit stupid IMO Although MON was 1 of them managers that done my head in post match interview and would make me cringe every time he spoke He does not deserve such treatment No way back for Sunderland now see them going down
It's a disease which needs ending, there's no stability. The worst one is Chelsea, as they will have had 11 managers in 10 years
they should bring in where you can only sack managers during transfer windows same as players can move clubs. worth a try, they do need to do something as its so wrong that a manager sometimes not even justified gets sacked, yet a player can still be shiite up until the club can get rid in the transfer window.
It seems odd that MON was sacked after losing 1 -0 to Utd. Surely the owners did not expect Sunderland to win so why not sack him before now. Or more sensibly wait until the end of the season, or are they hoping for the mythical "bounce" a team is supposed to get when a new man comes in. As McLaren is being linked with the job the "bounce" is more than likely going to be replaced with the "snap" of an umbrella opening on the touchline.
I agree that the sacking of managers is a joke, but the manager transfer window is unworkabale in my opinion. If the relationship with a player breaks down or they hit bad form, that player can be substituted, benched, sent to the reserves etc. A typical squad is about 30 players so replacing one is usually not a complete disaster. The same cannot be done with a manager. All we would see is more managers going on "gardening leave" until the end of the season before being sacked, which also means the manager cannot move on either as they are still under contract.
It's not the end of the world to be sacked; You get a massive pay off and managers in this country seem to find a new job very quickly - even the **** ones! I doubt MoN cares. He'll be back in management in the summer with a similar level club and it'll start over again.
This. Everyone moans about it saying how unfair to the managers but it's not like they go and then never find work and struggle to pay the mortgage. I'd take a massive pay off which means I could take a few months off and then walk in to another job that could be with a better "company" offering me the same or more money.
We have been ****e since January, we were going down with a whimper, maybe now something might change, we might still go down, but at least now we have a chance
Paolo di Canio being talked about as a replacement. Big jump from League 1 Swindon to Premiership Sunderland.

It's looking like Di Canio (BBC saying he has travelled to the North-East for talks: Link here) and that certainly is a bold appointment if it happens. You have to question where the goals are going to come from. All of the other teams in and around the relegation battle have a goalscorer (Q.P.R have Remy, Aston Villa have Benteke, Wigan have Kone & Southampton have Lambert) and with no Fletcher, Sunderland certainly don't. Graham hasn't done it as yet and Wickham hasn't been given a chance in the side. Sessegnon isn't a goalscorer and the midfield has no goalscorers in it. Apart from Gardner and most of his goals have come from the penalty shot. As Lucaaas has shown, the fixture list certainly isn't kind to me. Chelsea away and then a Tyne-Wear derby are their next two games. You might fancy them to get something at Villa and I would back them to beat Stoke at home. Maybe get something against Southampton and probably nothing from Tottenham. Need at least two wins but probably need three to be sure.
