Well, well what did I say? I was 'shot down in flames' about being very cautious on O'Neill and saying he wasn't an automatic route to success. I saw him as a defensive manager who gets teams to grind out results - I was very suprised about the clamour for him to be brought in...i.e. is it that hard to win the Scottish Premier with Celtic? I guess people were happy that he was a Sunderland fan as a kid (as well as Celtic). However, O'Neill didn't seem to get us solid defensively. The main gripe I had was that we never put a good ball into the box - be it a set peice or from free play. Week in, week out people like McClean, Larsson and Johnson simply didn't have the composure to put in a half decent cross...and it seemed that O'Neill couldn't do much to change it. I was absolutely livid towards the end of the Norwich game when Larsson took a free kick and YET AGAIN didn't lift the bugger off the floor - he wasn't giving us half a chance. I'm fed up of hearing how good Larsson is at set peices - he isn't. Whoever we do bring in - for crying out loud lets not expect something unrealistic. Let's give them time to build a team...and time to buy a left fullback as they will probably need it
Whoever we bring in were going to have to pray to the high heavens that we have this so called honeymoon period. The way things are at the minute I can see the car with just married on the back doing a hundred mile an hour away from the SoL & not coming back.
Can't see how its O'Neill's fault that Larsson and Johnson often couldn't get their dead balls past the first man. The players need to take a long hard look at themselves. Im not all out defending Mon because at times he had me pulling my hair out. This just looks like a rash decision to me and I don't think its one that's been mulled over or that there's someone special waiting in the wings.
Agree about the timing Parker...I suspect it means that somebody has given their word to Mr Short that they will take over...if not then I think Mr Short has made a serious error.
WE just sacked a manager who has won more trophies in the last 22 years as a manager in English football than we have as a club in the last 80. He took Vill to 3 successive top 6 places only 3 years ago but all of a sudden he is ****e? We should be more worried about the fact this is the ONLY club as a player or a manager he has been sacked at and the only one he has failed at. More worrying will be if he takes another job and works his magic on them. Its SAFC that ****ed mate not the manager and whoever gets the job in the next few days, I'll guarantee inside 12-18 months there will be calls for his head and shouts that he is a clueless ****er, tactically naive and altogether not fit for purpose etc............? Our club is a managerial and players graveyard and the sooner we accept that the better.
Good post. Oh and btw, I'll bet my home that there is not a 'special appointment' in the wings mate. Look more at McClaren, Hughes or the mad Italian ****er, none of whom are special at all. We have just taken a massive step backwards today imo and put this club back 10 or 15 years.
Actually mate you've proved nothing. If you look at MoN's past you'll find this season was quite typical of a MoN team in his first full season, this was the season he just managed to steer Villa to safety, he gave them 6th place finishes the following 3 seasons so you've proved nothing and we'll never know if you were right. Sorry to piss on your bonfire.
Two league cup's !!!!!!!! Whoop de whoooo As for his time at Villa, we were warned by Villa fans about his dire football, how ****e he was in the transfer market all have come true. I don't think you become ****e overnight but i think of how important John Robertson was to his sucsess has now been revealed
Yeah 2 league cup wins is pure chicken feed to a club like ours with a trophy cabinet bulging with silverware from 40 years of glorious success isn't it?
The only thing he's left us with, is a good goal difference. there's no dubt in my mind if he stayed in charge we would go down. Sacking is a gamble I know but one that might pay off, at least now I am not afraid of what might have happened when we meet Newcastle in a couple of weeks had he been in charge
