Yes, he's 74 years of age but he knows enough not to pick Wes Hoolahan.

So, what has Wes won???????? The LOI. He couldn't even win a Championship medal.

    OK, you don't like him.

Find it strange, after watching him destroy defences over many years that he's overlooked by Ireland. Still, they've done so well without him with their 'Foreigner' at the helm.

It's nothing got to do with whether I like him or not Gandy.

What defences has Wes Hoolahan "destroyed"?? "Over many years", are you talking about league one defences or League of Ireland defences? The lad has a league of Ireland Championship medal and a League one champions medal to his name and you try to make out he is a world beater?????

Go to Zimbabwe (for example) and ask the kids there to name 100 Premiership players and I guarantee you, Wes Hoolahan would not be mentioned by one of them. If you think otherwise, you are living in cloud cuckoo land.

He is overlooked by Ireland because he is simply not good enough. No other reason. The fact that there is a "foreigner" at the helm is neither here nor there.

    What?

League One, Championship, and Premier League. I watch him week in week out remember.

I never said he was a world beater, I said he was good enough for Ireland. Go to Zimbabwe, and how many Irish players would they quote? Weird thing to say.

Just because you don't like Norwich, it shouldn't cloud your judgement. On top of that, I never thought I'd see an ageing Italian in charge of the team, AND hear people say it's cool.

So, Wes played quite well in the league of Ireland, league one and the Championship. He is now playing for a mid to lower league level Premiership team. I admit you see him play week in week out so you would have a better idea of how he plays on a weekly basis. From afar, he never seems to be outstanding to me and I don't see how he would warrant a place in the Ireland team. My opinion however is not what counts but the opinion of the National Manager and I trust his judgement based on his knowledge and experience gained over the years winning things.

How do you know I don't like Norwich??? What gives you that idea???? Please direct me to where I have stated that I dislike Norwich.

Who said it is "cool" to have an ageing Italian in charge of the team??? It is cool that such a person qualified the country for it's first major finals in 10 years last year even if they didn't do very well when they got there.

The reference to Zimbabwe was just an example. My point was, ask any group of people anywhere in the world to name Premiership players and very, very few would mention Wes Hoolahan. Based on playing in the Euro finals last year, a hell of a lot more would recognise the likes of Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews ahead of him.

You've watched Ireland struggle have you? Maybe you haven't watched the games.

You make a mid to lower league Premier League team sound the lowest of the low, yet it's really not is it? He warrants a place because it's what Ireland is crying out for, a creative midfielder. I thought you'd approve.

Let's face it, we're never going to agree. <ok>

Yes, Gandy, unfortunately, I have watched Ireland struggle this past few years. I wouldn't pretend otherwise. The thing is, I have not seen a single convincing performance from Wes Hoolahan to warrant his inclusion. Trappatoni may be 74 years old but he is no mug when it comes to recognising a players ability. He gets paid far more than you or I get to spot talent so we both have no option but to trust his judgement.

Like Swords, I have also seen Wes play in the league of Ireland and even then, he never stood out to me. Maybe my judgement is being clouded by his performances from a decade ago.

We will have to agree to disagree on him unfortunately.

PS, I don't dislike Norwich. I respect Norwich for what you have achieved.

Okay Finglas so he's not playing in the Champions League. He's playing in the Premier League. When I said "made it to the top" perhaps I should have said made it to the "top League" or the the Prem instead. Jesus, you have to choose your words very carefully on this forum.

By the way, just because he plays for a mid-table Prem side doesn't mean that he's not a quality player. Adel Taarabt plays for the bottom of the table side but I'm guessing you wouldn't say he's that bad, eh Fingi?

Which is why I said Trappatoni made a mistake. It seems like the rest of the Country agrees with me too. Except you!!

Fingi, can't you see the irony in what you've just said? What defences has Taarabt destroyed over the years? The Championsh*t??

I'll say this now. Give me Wes Hoolahan over Adel Taarabt any day of the week. And that's recognising the fact that Hoolahan is only a good player but not a brilliant one.

Change that to "the lad has an NPC winners medal and you try to make out he is a World beater???" and you can apply the same to Taarabt.

Are you on the wind up mate?

Swords, I am not getting in a Taarabt debate with you. I can have a debate about another player without reverting to Adel. I am not sure you can. I promised a few weeks back I wasn't discussing Adel until the season is over and I an sticking by that.

If you think Hoolahan is good enough for the Ireland team, fair enough. It doesn't matter what the rest of the country think. There is only one man who gets paid to pick the team and it's not you or I or the rest of the country. That man is very experienced at what he does. Far more experienced than the bar stoolers who are calling for Hoolahan to be included in the team.

I think he is very average and I can't remember the last time I seen him play a good game.

Fair enough mate. But I do have an opinion on Trapattoni and I think he's far too conservative and is afraid to let our players, well, play!

Every time I see Hoolahan play, he plays well. I think he's good value for a mid-table Prem side and in my opinion, should be in the Irish side too. But I respect your views pal. :emoticon-0148-yes:

That's the beauty of the world, all our opinions are different. If they were all the same, it would be very boring.

As regards Trap, I thought he should have been sacked after the debacle in Poland. I don't think John Delaney has the balls to sack him. This is Trap's last campaign so maybe a new manager will pick Hoolahan in a year or two. The new manager might be Chris Hughton????? Gandy, any chance of that happening????

Indeed mate. I was gutted when the equaliser went in because I would have loved to see that prick Dunphy squirm his way out of that one, had we won. I also thought that Tony O'Donoghue was out of order with the manner of his questioning after the game. Trap, who's an old man lets not forget, looked broken and I actually think he had been crying. When in that situation, the interviewer should have backed off a little bit. I really like Trap but sometimes he can be his own worst enemy. Brian Kerr got the sack too by being too negative. He fu*ked up the two Israeli games and cost us 4 points and qualification and along with it, his job.

    Secret,
i was following that thread and have to say I'm disgusted with you & Imaz's feeble attempts to get Swords banned. Your bull claims of ridiculous stuff bore us all. In staead of sending snide messages to the mod, why dont you and Imaz just call Swords out. If he's proven to be wrong, then crucify him...in public

    For the record

the majority of your ITK predictions havbe been proven absolute lies.
Plenty of what Imaz says is pure WUM and bull..
Loads of swords stuff is wum also....

The reason i take swords side on this is because he has never (to my knowledge) knowingly asked for someone to be banned; or complained to a mod asking for a ban ( as you have recently Secret)

FFS...man up the 3 of you; AND; if you dish it out then be prepared to take it......personally think the 3 of you are bottle jobs tbh

F-ing deal with it and move on!!

Saw a film called Defiance the other day, that was a damn good film. The wife's become a Dan Craig fan since I introduced her to him as Bond (not sure it's all to do with his acting skills).
Has he actually been in a bad film?
