No he means moving Arteta to ze bench and putting an actual DM as DM, with Arteta slotting in there on a handful of games.

I suspect it would be the DM slotting in for a handful of games and I don't think you could keep a top DM, a) match fit or b) happy with the little amount of play he would get, not to mention the confusion you will get having the team swapping the style of play and the formation week in week out.

This DM thing has to die a death, it is so over-simplistic and impractical. Yes it would work for a mid table club against teams that don't sit back and defend in depth, but right now the only teams that want to play against us are the top 5 or so. Against the others a DM just is going to be a waste.

Why would Wenger buy a DM, a position he tried to get players in in January, only to bench him?

True had a bad game today. Absolute shocker. <ok> Still not as bad as Dean though. We would have drawn with Reading had he been officiating.

It's occurred to me after watching MOTD. Gervinho is like a budget Gareth bale, minus the finishing. Very good with the ball, defenders struggle against him, yet where Bale takes his chances, Gervinho doesn't.

Everyone always says "If Gerv could finish, he'd be world class" and i agree.

Missed the game, but from the highlights it looked like the Gervinho show. Wow. <laugh>

Anyway, with Chelsea losing it's another massive win for us. In the league, we have won five of our last six games, so we are starting to build a real head of steam.

So many questions but lets start with these two. How do you know he tried to get a DM and why would he play a DM, when we are only giving up a handful of shots at goal in a game without one?

Because it's painfully obvious when you're at the stadium watching how easily the opposition bypass the midfield. Arsenal can go from the edge of the opposition box to pressure on their back 4 in 2 passes. A DM would change that massively, by filling the space in midfield that Arteta currently occupies.

Arteta has done well, but he's more of a pivot than a DM.

One of the best examples was the Gerrard / Alonso / Mascherano midfield a few years ago. Mascherano held, Alonso made the play, while Gerrard pushed on. It was beautifully balanced.

In addition, having a physical player would give add a tactical variation - from cultured, smaller players such as Cazorla, Wilshere, Arteta, Theo against the Readings, Swanseas etc. who play real football, to Giroud, Podolski, DM etc against the larger, more physical teams.

Man Utd have Welbeck, RvP, Rooney & Hernandez as strikers, and they're ALL happy. Arsenal, with rotation and tactical switches based on the opposition would easily be able to keep a top DM happy.

They may not start every game, but they'd be brought on in every one Arsenal were winning with 20mins to go to shore things up.

Only watched the highlights, and have yet to see the whole game again, so I want to know how Rosicky played? Think that might have been his first start in the league this season, so if he can find some form than we would go up another level , IMO. Just like last year.

Rosicky played well, nothing special, but showed signs that he might hit his best form soon. It's too soon to tell based on this performance.
