Much needed result, and the Saints did us a massive favour too nicking 3 points off Chelsea.

That was desperate. I'm sure it was a great game for the neutral, but our tactics in the second half were utter ****e.
Is it a coincidence that we've got Friedel back in goal and we've returned to dropping back so deep? Not sure, but I'd like to see us bring in back-up that's similar in style to Lloris.

Great three points, but we need to perform better than that over 90 minutes, I'm afraid.

  6. Well take the 3 points and the Chavs losing as well is a bonus. But after the first 25 minutes that was DIRE!!
And what is worrying is the fact that the negative way we played the last 15 of the first half was mirrored when we came out in the 2nd half - so either AVB didn't change anything or else the players didn't listen!!

Give Swansea some credit - particularly impressed with their right back - but we played into their hands and were lucky to win. Got do better than this if we are to get CL....

  7. That is harsh on Friedel mate - the probs with defence were across the board, mostly poor positioning and bad decision making. He pulled off a couple of top saves which came about by poor marking, nothing to do with the system we were playing.

Just too many loose punts out of defence, like a bunch of schoolboys knocking it up field in hope. We really need to place the ball and keep possesion, no excuse we have the players and the skill. Very disapointing even though we won.

No I agree with PNP Friedel as good as he is just does not make the area his own.

I don't think that he did a lot wrong in terms of positioning, saves and coming for balls, but the defence seems to drop very deep at times when he's in goal.
I could be wrong, but I don't think that it happens when Lloris is between the sticks or at least it's not as noticeable or sustained.

Well it wouldn't be Tottenham if it was easy. I thought we looked susceptible to aerial ball, both in open play and at set pieces at the back. With the ball on the ground we were generally sound IMO, although Walker had a few dodgy moments and I'm not happy with Naughton at left back at all, he leaves us wide open there especially with Sig playing ahead of him as another right-footer.

We seemed to step off the gas a bit after the second goal and majorly in the second half. I can understand us dropping back and attempting to break but after a while of it just not working we should have stepped up the tempo again really. We invited too much pressure and weren't breaking effectively enough to justify inviting it further.

I thought Ade led the line reasonably well but had a few poor touches in key areas and, somewhat unforgivably just looked like he couldn't be arsed a lot of the time. Michu got properly wound up, can't help but think that Verts was maybe told to get under his skin a bit because it always seemed to be those two at it. 3 Points at Swansea can't be sniffed at, I reckon plenty of teams have gone there this season and played better than us just there and come away with nothing. We've picked up the win without playing to our best and moved into 3rd, and we're still to play Chelsea who obvs are the team directly below us, so if we can win against them then we're looking strong IMO. Improvement is needed of course as it wasn't our best performance, by no means bad but we do need to get better in some aspects of the game really.

  12. Take your point but its not just the defence that drops back!!!
Bottom line is that Walker continues to disappoint and Naughton isn't good enough at LB. why he played with Benny on the bench is baffling.

Ade has over extended his welcome for me (at last) - when he cannot even work hard to compensate for all his other current failings then enough is enough. Defoe didn't exactly look lively when he came on. The sum total of our forwards was one chance each!!

Dawson didn't have a good game either. Badly at fault for their goal, he let Michu roam on a few occasions which could have been costly.

Not sure what happened to the midfield duo of Parker and Dembele. Neither made any sort of impact on the game and Moussa was pretty anonymous throughout. Azza worked hard as usual but this was not one of his best days either.

Thank **** for Bale and Verts!!

I'll be in church tomorrow and think I really aught to thank SOMEONE for three points!
I'm beginning to wonder what the average age is for an old Spurs fan......I don't think we last long in this world!

A couple of my predictions were wrong though.
I thought Swansea would put a spanner in our works.......
I thought Chelsea would scrape through today....
I thought Arsenal would wallop Reading (they love to beat up on the Readings etc).....right there!

I love following Wigan's progress. For a team that doesn't seem to have much, they are always hanging in there. The manager needs a knighthood! How he keeps them above water,Lord knows!!!!!!

Swansea were never going to roll over like they did against Arsenal so to beat them on their patch is commendable, regardless of the performance.

Even so, there's so many areas to improve - I doubt much can/will be done now till the end of the season so it's just a matter of grinding these sorts of performances out.

Disappointed that Spurs players turned dirty when we started to play in the 2nd half - really surprised at that. But then again it showed that the Swans were playing well at that point and your players were absolutely desparate to hold on to the win so perhaps it's understandable, even if it's unforgiveable as a fan of the opposition. We deserved a point, no doubt.

Said at the start that Spurs would get CL and I stand by that. Good luck for the rest of the season. <ok>

Once again we play ****e, crap tactics, no one in midfield to pass or keep the ball.....but we won, so i cant even bring myself to talk too much about whats wrong, as its the same most weeks.

Ill take these results aslong as we get champions league football but Avb has to improve the team/tactics so we can pass/ keep the ball and play for 90 minutes.
