As we no longer have a regular contributor of a matchday thread, I thought that I might have a bash if that’s ok with everyone ? please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Tomorrow's game is arguably the biggest of the season so far for both teams so it's bound to be a tense affair. Victory for The Canaries will see them move a full 10 points clear of The Latics and the relegation zone with their Premier League status all but assured for next term. However should Wigan win this one a mere 4 points will separate City from the bottom three dragging them into the relegation dogfight. DW Stadium Wigan please log in to view this image Wigan come into this match in relatively good form having won two of their last three Premier League games. A four nil home reverse against Liverpool sandwiched in between creditable victories at home to Newcastle and away at Reading. Matt Jackson captained both Wigan and Norwich please log in to view this image Norwich on the other hand have been struggling for goals recently and their only victory this year has been against Everton at Carrow Road. Although their football hasn't been pleasing on the eye in their last few games, they have been extremely hard to beat losing just one of their last seven Premier League outings to champions elect Manchester United. Kei Kamara celebrates with his teamates after scoring on his home debut against Everton please log in to view this image Although traditionally not a footballing town (the preferred sport being that played by men with peculiar shaped balls), Wigan have enjoyed Premier League football since 2005. In recent years however, they have only managed to cling on to their top flight status due to a remarkable turnaround in form at this stage of the season. The record signing of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon this week has given the Norwich fans a feel good factor and optimism for the future and shows real ambition by the City board. Let's hope that the team can secure only their second away win this season and we can relax and look forward to another season in the top flight and the riches that it will bring. I didn't realise if we lose this then there is only a four point cushion between us and the bottom 3. Massive game then and vital we don't lose. Good job we have the perfect manager to grind out a 0-0. Win and we are all but certain of PL action next season.
As much as we would all desperately like a victory tomorrow, I think I would probably take a draw if it were offered right now
Yep, fully agree. Avoiding defeat is much more important than a win, much as I'd like one. I still think a 4-2-3-1 with (a hopefully on form) Tettey back though has the attacking potential to deliver all 3 points, especially as Wigan's 3-4-3 can leave them open.
I wouldn't really describe us as one of their bogey sides, we've only played them eight times in all competitions since 1987. We've won four, drawn three and lost one, although two of those wins were in a two legged league cup match. Here's a useful link to our head-to-head record http://www.statto.com/football/teams/norwich-city/head-to-head
I love this match thread Should it end in a show of hands, I think you may get this gig, kickitoff! Especially love the mugshot of "super" Matty Jackson - back in my season ticket days. Top effort, mate!
Bogeyish then lol. I remember Paul Jewel getting the winner in a surprise FA cup win for them, the first meeting, all those years ago. Wouldn't mind seeing a bogey team thread, for and against. I'm sure there'll be a few surprises in there. As for the game, Lee Camp stands in for Mark Bunn. Then there's the Ricky van Wolfswinkel factor, hopefully it will gee up the attack. We are due a big win.
Thanks mate, I'm toying with the idea of a 'Braga v Lisbon ' thread on Monday so we can comment on the performance of a certain Mr R V Wolfswinkel. What do you reckon ??
At a quick glance, Wigan appear to have started their annual claw back to safety again however we're talking about a win against Reading and a very dubious result over Newcastle (as well as the Liverpool reverse). I think the Norwich game will decide if they're serious survivalists yet again. If it's up for grabs I'd take the draw option right now too thanks.
I looked up their (sportings) fixtures just now, yes braga on Monday then benefica the week after Will certainty have one eye on him Did you here talksport drive today kio, I know you are a fan ?? Main topic was relegation, Durham was banging on about how negative we are and us or Sunderland were his tips for the third relegation place. He loves us
For some reason Durham has taken a complete dislike to us, the man (i use the term 'man' loosely of course), is a complete knobhead. He talks absolute bollocks and fcuk knows how he got that gig on talkSHITE On the other hand another presenter, Stan Colllymore has said he has 'a soft spot for us' so that's why I still listen to the station. Stan has his demons but he talks a lot of sense
Durham has set his stall out for us now, he can't change his line otherwise he will look like more of a cock Michael gray, ex Mackems, was on the show too, I don't think he bought it
HP Sauce from the Wigan board reckons that there record after international breaks is abysmal, hopefully that will bode well for us tomorrow. As for Durham, he hasnt got a clue about our club, team or how Hughton sets us up for the rest of the season! Yes we are a tad boring but we are trying to build a premier league club and we need to grind ugly results out to stay here for next season! He is a complete tool, and if phone calls were free he would just have 100's of people slagging him off and i certainly would be one
I don't think Durham believes what he is saying, just trying to be over the top to bring in the audience and get his name out there. Trying to be the Simon Cowell in the football world. Best to just ignore him and hope he goes away. Anyway, hoping for a win tomorrow to assure Premier league status next season, but more important not to lose it. I fear Wigan at this time of the season because they seem to come alive. But I think we'll be solid and get some kind of result.
The international break is the crucial factor for me. We have so much riding on this game. Win and we put Villa back in the bottom three, and I really believe they are close to snapping point. It's the emotional part of this that I think other clubs can't handle. For us, we have nothing to lose - ever. We've been on nothing other than a giant killing journey for eight years. It's all just gravy, you know? If it weren't for the break I'd be completely confident of a win for us. We were the better side against both Everton and Newcastle. Critical players - like Maloney and Kone - are coming into form. Alcaraz is back. McCarthy is finding his form again. I hope Bobby is able to play Calum from the start too. It'll get the fans pumped. NCFC lads all over him like a rash, so the Wigan supporters will want to show their support.
Our line-up: Camp; R.Martin (C), Bassong, Turner, Garrido; Johnson, Howson, Snodgrass, E.Bennett, Hoolahan; Kamara Bench: Steer; Whittaker, Holt, Fox, Becchio, Tierney, Tettey Surprised Whittaker doesn't start after the injury to Martin last weekend, and Tettey presumably just isn't quite fit enough.
