As I understand it Rudd, Korey Smith, Francomb and Adeyemi will all count as senior players next year which with players on loan in and out plus Wolfswinkel we now have 35 senior players already for next years squad. Obviously CH will want to make further signings and I have seen numbers from 3 to 10 mentioned. Quite clearly he wants to frame his own squad so, for the purpose of this thread, let us use a figure of 5 which means that 15 have got to go. Who would they be? I would have thought it unlikely that Camp, Ward and Chris Martin will be offered new contacts leaving 12 more. Personally I can see no sense in loaning out Korey Smith, Francomb or Adeyemi again to lower league sides - what would we learn further about their potential? - and so I would let them go leaving 9 more. I can also see it likely that he will let go most of the players out on loan especially Ayala, Vaughan and Barnett leaving 6 more. Jackson and Fox seem the next most likely but that still leaves 4. Who do you think they will be? Am I being OTT for suggesting he might look for 5 more signings? Do you disagree with my suggested departures - if not who should go instead? What will his priorities be in strengthening as obviously he could only let Tierney go if he buys a left back? Will he try and hang on to Kamara and Garrido who I have included in the current numbers or will he let them go? Could there be any shock departures such as Howson or Butterfield? Will he let Rudd go and stick with Ruddy, Bunn and Steer? All a matter of opinion and only time will tell but something to consider during a dull International break.
Good post 1950 It's going to be a big summer of change I can see a few shock departures coming up for senior players for sure P Others could be Barnett & tierney
Yes, think there will be quite a few ins and outs. Bound to be one or two surprise departures - Tettey? Pilks? Bennett E?
With McNally in charge I'm sure the players who leave will be those that we either no longer need or release to allow players to pursue careers at a lower level. Last summer we had a huge disruption with lambert leaving and the new manager and (to a lesser extent) chief scout not knowing the squad. This summer they will be continuing the building and of what we've seen so far they can't half pick out a player.
I can see quite a few changes and I would let Rudd, Tierney, (Whittaker can cover LB), Fox, Surman and Jackson. Other possibles could be E Bennett and Vaughan; but I have complete faith in CH and his scouts to buuy players who wil improve the team.
Tettey's poor form in the latter half of the season will probably reduce interest in him. E Bennett wouldn't surprise me though, but he's had far more involvement as a squad member than others. Of those out on loan, Chris Martin, Vaughan, Smith and Adeyemi are unlikely to ever make the first team, so I could see them leaving. Of Ayala, Barnett and Ward, we only really need one, so I'd expect the other 2 to depart. Butterfield and Rudd are the others out on loan. In the goalkeeper department, I'd rather keep hold of both Rudd and Steer, because their value is only going to increase, and could be genuine long-term options for us. They could both have season-long loans next season, so them staying should hopefully not hinder their development. I'd like Butterfield to stay and offer competition to Hoolahan, but I've no idea if he's good enough. Of the first-team squad: Jackson - next to no opportunities next season, should get first team football in the championship, so makes sense for him to leave. Tierney - Ryan Bennett played LB a couple of times when Garrido was out, so surely Hughton has no faith in him? He must be looking to move/be-moved on. Surman - Injuries and formation have reduced his chances this year, but he's probably still good enough, especially if a better DM allows a more creative player into the side. I'd keep him. Fox - Signing a new contract would have implied he'd have chances, or was at least wanted by Hughton, but he's had no opportunities when we've been short in the middle of the park, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him moved on. E Bennett - Selling him would leave us with 2 wingers, so we'd need someone coming in or we'd be short. I think he's good enough for a squad player.
This will be CHs first real chance to freshen it all up properly, dont like the term deadwood they are just victims of our rapid change in circumstance Non surprise Outs I expect Vaughan, Camp, Rudd, Tierney, Fox, Smith, C Martin , Ward , Ayala, Barnett, Jackson , Surman would not be bothered if (i'll side step another tackle) Howson went too but CH plays him a lot so cant see that happening Hope we can keep Garrido and Kei, assume we will do the Garrido deal as soon as we are mathamatically safe Ins I would like Lescott and Biliga another LB not a clue who
I wouldn't mind seeing that LB from Swansea here. He seems pretty ok, but not too sure if he would be willing to fight for a place.
Why would Tettey be sold? His drop in form was due to his soldiering on despite an injury, which has since kept him out of the last few games. Why are people now writing him off? Totally unjustified IMO.
Bum. Thought this thread was about the excellent HBO series set in the Old West that was annoyingly cancelled after only three series. Got my hopes up that it was being resurrected. Now my delight over the weekend due to the RvW news has been tempered by this disappointment.
I've seen a rumour that he should be fit for the 'run-in'. Let's hope he rediscovers his early season form.
Whipcrackaway. We'll probably be saying fond farewells to: Korey Adeyemi Vaughan Ward Ayala C Martin Barnett Tierney Fox Rudd Francomb Jackson Surman may also be moved on but I'd' like to see him stay. I see Weimann has attracted Liverpool's interest - it's not beyond the realms of improbability of seeing a Weimann swap for Fox as Lambert is known to admire him. Should be an interesting summer (if we get one).
Me too Dave - certainly a prospect for the future but I just get a feeling he'll not be able to break through and may be deemed surplus. Hope not - I'd like to see him stay - same with Korey really - like him too.
i too hope we keep francomb. the issue with adeyimi and smith is that we have a lot of midfielders ahead of them. not the same with francomb in the full back position. rusty and whitaker are the RBs. also i can't see 10-12 players leaving. just seems such a huge overhaul. Only a few will be out of contract so we need to find a buyer if we are bringing in someone better. I can see a few going on loan to championship sides like this season.
Evolution not revolution as CH says, so I see a creative CM, a quality CB, Garrido on a perm and another quality LB coming in and Fox, Barnett, Tierney and Jackson leaving from the current 25. Others currently out on loan will move on, but it's hard to tell who. Emphasis on quality rather than quantity now, IMO.
Have we actually got that much more to psend in the summer? We have committed £8.5m plus wages on the Wolf and if we are looking for better than we have then by the time we have signed Garrido, a decent CB and a CM I don't think that there will be much more in the war chest. I can't see us offloading anyone for much money so I reckon that if we are going for quality then we'll only see a couple more in the summer. Hope I'm wrong but given our recent history I can't see us gambling the future of the club on transfer fees and wages. There is a huge risk in breaking up a happy, settled squad even if you are adding "better" players. I can see CH having a couple of targets in mind (Biglia/Daives?) and picking them up early doors and then letting all the other clubs worry about who they chase.
we won't be gambling norfolkbhoy, but we will have a fair chunk of money because - 1. No more loan repayments on the jarrold stand after May 2. the wolfie fee i'd have thought must be mainly out of this years budget (as we tried to get him or hooper in January) 3. extra TV money
And also because we're not paying any of our current players obscene and unrealistic wages, so there's no danger of us following the QPR role model or being held to ransom by mercenary players over ridiculously high wage demands. We proved that a while ago with Zak Whitbred - if anything, McNally will be even more resolute now
