Its an utter disgrace that the Olympic Stadium was never built in Britain in the first place rather than that over populated international theme park known as London. America has Disneyland, we have London!

I believe George Osbourne is currently seeking Government loan assistance to enable him to buy it as a second, or third, or fourth, or fifth, home!

They know an opportunity when they see one!

Buy ailing club for peanuts then fleece the rest of the country to the sum of £80m!!

£15m only is what they are paying for the Olympic stadium, the rest of the cost of getting them into that stadium come from the public purse. Plus they get to ruin a proper, traditional, community club like Orient!

What a shamefully corrupt world we live in!

Oops sorry bout that, I'm on the move on my iPad and haven't read the whole board! Soz!

So what if west ham don't take it on? All the money's been made n the building of it, the taxpayers left to pay for the up keep. Athletics meetings won't fill it regularly. It's a white elephant unless west ham get it

So it make sense to throw good money after bad does it?

The issue here is the whole legacy thing has been utter bollox. It is a white elephant, so now they're going to make the public 10s of millions more to stop that! Ridiculous!

You do all realise that the reason it's having retractable seating over the track is because when West Ham aren't playing it is going to be used for Athletics and other things? Just a few people seem to be suggesting it's purely going to be West Ham in there.

I don't quite understand how this retractable seating malarky is going to work though? Surely they're just going to be blocking the view of the existing front rows, so it might bring it closer to the pitch, but it doesn't add any capacity or anything to it does it? I'm aware the capacity is being reduced, but that's a seperate thing entirely, I just don't see what the retractable seating does other than mean the front rows are going to be closer to the pitch for the football, there doesn't seem to be any other benefit to the cost of it.

West Ham and an Olympic scale stadium, unfuckingbelieveable!

We play (sometimes) in a library, they will play in a morgue. This should have been the centre for sports excellence.

    On Sky today.
Houses according to Karen Brady. She also said its not cut and dried as yet as there are 2 or 3 obstacles still to go through. but they hope it wont take long.
Barry Hearn said he wasnt giving up and that WHU have been too early in annoucing it . His lawyer has said they have made a 'massive massive mistake ' in doing so.

This will not only ruin West Hams atmosphere completely, but i can see it crippling the club, especially if they end up on a downward spiral like previous seasons.

Besides, what attendances are they hoping to get to fill it?

There's a massive stadium in London, bought and paid for, it would be ridiculous not to use it regularly.

West Ham are the only viable option, they've agreed to pay at least £200m over the term of lease(obviously it will be more, as it will be subject to rent reviews), Orient can't pay anything like that much and wouldn't get anywhere near filling it and Spurs are too far away.

They were always going to get it.

We should have bit the bullet and made it a top-notch sports academy, with no association to football.

How would that be funded Fez?

West ham aren't the bad guys in all this. If this stadium was built in west London Chelsea would get it. It's either a massive white elephant or its west hams

London have held the Olympics before and the last stadium was flattened. MPs seem to rush into things without thinking.
    Millennium Dome anyone?
    Iraq war?
    Afghan war?
no contingency plan after the main event.

Are you really comparing the Iraq and Afghan wars to the Millennium dome?

Anyway the Millennium dome is a hugely profitable multi-use arena, so that all worked out well in the end!

West Ham may not be the bad guys but they are getting a massive benefit and it is very kind of you to pay for it. Forget what you have already spent on it for the Olympics you are now going to help spend £140 million of public money to give the spammers a nice new ground. They will spend £15m and get goodness knows how much from the sale of the Boleyn.

Oh - and forget any Northern bias for once - Londoners apart from West Hammers are not happy as £40 million comes from their rates thanks to Boris Johnson's generosity with their money

Spurs should have been allowed to have it - can't think why they wanted it - as they were going to convert the ground at their own expense - not your money
