Hopeful article and reinforces what seems obvious - we'll only let a player we don't want to sell go for crazy money. Fair enough.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-transfers-yohan-cabaye-wont-1779463

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will refuse to sell France playmaker Yohan Cabaye at any price.

Ashley warded off interest in several stars last summer by quoting an automatic £25million transfer fee for all of his players – including regular sub James Perch!

And he will do the same in the coming off-season with midfielder Cabaye, who is Ashley’s favourite Toon player, the man who makes the side tick and who will become skipper if Fabricio* Coloccini leaves this summer.

Argentina defender Coloccini has spent the last few weeks at home with a back injury, but should be fit after Easter.

He wants to join San Lorenzo in his homeland, and the Magpies could waive a transfer fee to save his £3m-a-year salary.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed full-back Massadio Haidara has escaped a serious knee injury after THAT horror clash with Wigan's Callum McManaman on Sunday.

In a statement, Newcastle said: “Massadio has very fortunately escaped any significant bone or ligament damage following the dangerous tackle by Wigan Athletic’s Callum McManaman on Sunday.

“We are very pleased that the extent of his injury is less severe than first feared and is limited to bruising to the bone and soft tissue damage.

“Depending on the speed of his recovery he should be fit to play again in early April.

“Massadio will continue to be assessed over the coming days.

“He has been very lucky that he has not suffered more serious injury and this positive diagnosis in no way lessens the club’s views with regard to the severity of the tackle from which it resulted.”

Haha £25 million for Perchinho would be an absolute steal, do they think Ashley's a mug or something? What kind of tosser would try to lowball NUFC like that?

OR has Ashley made a boo-boo and means he will sell the entire squad for a single payment of £25m? <yikes>

Perchy's game has improved tremendously and he always gives his all, he'd be a big miss if he went.

Never thought I'd hear myself saying that.

After the 2-2 v Wigan when Insomnia ran him completely ragged I never thought I'd see Perchy in a Toon shirt again. How wrong was I?

I think the original 25 million quote suggested that for a few of them it would be in Greek Drachma....

I've always said Ashley is good for our club from a business point of view.
It's good to see that he and Dekka seem to be making positive strides on the PR front too.

    - actually I've been saying it since 2008, he proved his acumen with the handling of the Keiron Dyer sale, where he turned down £6mil, Dyer was played in one pre-season game and proven pretty fit, then he asked for, and got, £8mil

i don't blame very much at all for the relegation, I think that was inevitable and we were on our way anyway; I appreciate what he was trying to do with Dennis Wise though the second effort with Carr has been much more fruitful; and I think Keegan could have behaved much better and actually kept things steady while a new man was found rather than walking out after two days, though I do appreciate his principles were at stake, he didn't behave like someone who loves the club or cared for the fans all things considered.

I shouted pretty loud against him at times, especially around the time of sacking Chris Hughton. I think his biggest problem in terms of how he is perceived has always been poor PR. That was always my biggest gripe. There was little or no communication from the club as to what was going on. That can be really frustrating to fans, especially when decisions are being made for the long-term benefit of the club. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I am delighted to be able to admit just how wrong I was.

at the time I felt the sacking of Chris Hughton did not make sense, and it was the first decision he made that seemed not to (all though some were risks taken that didn't pay off), however, there has been a number of reports that CH was just too nice etc and that dressing rtoom was not under his control, which all makes it look cold and ruthless, but sensible from a business perspective

i would love to hear that phone call !

seriously though, i am sure he would listen to good offers, Willo will probably end up playing for Championship club and they wouldn't pay £25mil

There were certainly many reports of that and the cliques within the dressing room. We cant argue with the direction the club is going really. A big example of that is that when stories broke about an English Champions League game being under investigation for bribery my first thoughts were "Please Freddy NO!". I would not have those same worries about the current setup as it would be a poor business decision and I believe we are far more professional now.
