Possibly, but the timing of the announcement (after the newspapers were running riot) means that it is more likely they were forced to make an announcement. Sporting are a listed company, which means shares in the club are traded on a stock exchange. I haven't looked into it, but if they have the same rules as our stock exchanges, it is likely that Sporting are obliged to keep the public informed about major deals like this and when the rumour mills get very loud, they have to confirm or deny as best they can. Not very helpful, I know, but all I'm saying is that you can't read anything into the announcement! From most reports, it sounds like Norwich have agreed the deal with Sporting and it is now a matter of personal terms. There may also be some negotiation going on with third parties. I think (or maybe hope!) that at this stage there is no chance of us being out-bid (i.e. we have a binding contract with Sporting) - any failure to get a deal in those circumstances would be because RVW rejects us or we can't come to terms with the third party owners (if, indeed, we haven't already). But as I said, I really don't know - that's just my (slightly) educated guess.
I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but check out this RVW wonder goal. When I watched this I got so excited at the prospect of him possibly scoring a goal like this at Carra Road, a little bit of wee came out ! I remember reading about this guy a while back (maybe a year or two ago) and Man Utd were very interested him as he was so prolific. So certainy would be a decent coup. Would he be our most expensive signing ever? Shows a bit of ambition anyway that we are in for these sorts! Hopefully we get the stadium expanded soon too. Come on England! Want at least 7
Seems to be breaking news in Portugal. This from the Pink'Un site from a statement by the Sporting chairman: Sporting chairman confirms deal? http://translate.google.com/transla...76.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Has been confirmed by a Sporting fan on the spot as well.
Interesting that McNally, in his usual gnomic way, was tweeting that he was still at work, around 8.00pm, which looks to coincide with his counterpart in Lisboa making these comments. Even more interestingly, he had macaroni at Yellows instead of the spicy chicken wings.
Amazing signing. Well done to your board for their show of commitment and ambition. Should be a great signing. We went through the same emotions surrounding Gaston Ramirez, and that deal dragged on for a good month or so! But, good luck and I hope RVW is great for you. Like Norwich.
I'm in shock! I wanted to believe the story yesterday, but aren't let myself get too excited. Looking forward to seeing the comments from regular posters - Beefy, RBF, carrabuh etc.
