  4. Haidara has suffered no bone, ligament or tendon damage and is going to be back at the beginning of April anyway. Whole load of fuss about nothing <doh>

Now you are just being a tool.

"he could have broken his leg, but seeing as he has not had a leg broken it's fine" <doh>

The player said himself he is still in shock over what happened to him. You've too much fkn time on your hands, eat something that gives you the runs if you are so bored, <ok>

Didn't know there was a prize for tackles like that<whistle>

Besides your comment states he had control of the ball and clattered the player. He touched the ball would be far more accurate<ok>

No idea what you mean, being deadly serious, was a perfect tackle. Win the ball and let the opposition know you are there. Don't you agree Sisu? <whistle>

  15. If I hadn't used the same image then I wouldn't have been able to put 'borrow' which make the whole comment void <doh>

Intentionally or not, you do like to bite though <laugh>

Looking at it objectively, the ball was on the ground at Haidara's right foot, as he was cutting in from the left wing. McManaman connected with Haidara's left knee, using his right foot. How much further from the ball can you get? A genuine attempt to win the ball would have been 1) with his left foot, as that was the side of him the ball was on and 2) a tackle on the ground. Why on earth would you aim knee high and to the right for a ball that's on the floor and to the left? It wasn't one of those where the ball was bouncing and he tried to knick it away.

Therefore you'd have to question how genuine an attempt to win the ball it was. It wasn't a 50:50 either; Haidara had full control of the ball.

Nor did Haidara quickly shift the ball; in fact he was practically stationary when McManaman came in (Whelan actually claimed Haidara 'came in just as hard' as McManaman, which is nothing short of ludicrous.) To put this kind of challenge down to 'debut nerves' or 'over-enthusiasm' a Martinez did is a very weak excuse. He's a professional footballer who should have enough control of his body to not miss the ball by so great a margin, no matter what the apparent occasion is.

The sheer stupidity, or miscalculation, or recklessness, or whatever you want to call it, of the tackle was illustrated by the fact that the ball actually ricocheted off McManaman's left shin while he was going studs up and knee high with his right boot. He didn't even see the ball do this, as he was looking the other way. Then for him to simply play on as if it was a fine tackle was terrible. Most players would think 'oh ****, I've crocked this guy', even if only briefly. He didn't even flinch. You're not telling me he didn't know he'd just smashed Haidara in the kneecap?

Jonjo Shelvey's tackle on Johnny Evans is an example of over-enthusiasm. It was a 50:50 and he went in too hard on the follow through, but it was a tackle that was actually near the ball, as he connected with it before the man. Rightfully sent of, but a genuine attempt for the ball.
