West Ham have been given a 99 year lease for the Olympic Stadium which they can start using in 2016.

I can't help but feel that their atmosphere will die, and will the Spammers even get the right amount of attendances in there?

    Cracking legacy from the games.

How will this improve grass roots athletics/sport?

You would hope there would some sort of clause in said contract where such things like, local grass roots cup finals etc can be played there. Doubt it though.

I doubt it too. West Ham aren't even the local team are they?

To be fair, it's less than three miles from the Boleyn Ground.

But isn't it effectively in orient? Would you pass other ground(s) travelling that three miles?

I don't know, I just seem to recall those being arguments offered against it going to WHU

The Olympic Stadium is in Stratford, West Ham are 2.8m directly to the west and Orient are 2.0m directly to the north.

I never really understood the Orient argument to be honest.

I saw a midget throwing the javelin in that stadium. There's no way West Ham are ever going to come close to recreating that level of entertainment.

The fact that they will have retractable seating on the track for football games, the fans in the stands will be a long way from the pitch, the atmosphere will be ****e.

In fact, how weird is that - I just went past the stadium on a train at exactly the same time as sending that last post. No claret and blue in sight a yet.

The conversion cost seems a bit high, even for loadsamoney cockneys, stadium cost £486M, all land and infrastructure paid for, new tube stations etc yet the conversion to football is going to take 3 years and another £150M! West Ham only have to pay £2M a year rent. Another Bubble.

Just seems ****ing stupid to me having West Ham play in one of the most Easterly points in London.

    Southern ****ers.

Not meaning to brag, but I went to the Olympics, and the seats seemed miles away from the pitch. Having it as football stadium would need it to have retractable seating, or it would lose its atmosphere for sure.

An Utter Disgrace that the Olympic Stadium has been allowed to go to West Ham Utd. It should have taken over as the UK Olympic HQ for All Athletics (track and field) imo. Its purpose built and is far better than the current Crystal Palace is. That should have been sold off and redeveloped instead, imo.

Upton Park is more than good enough for the spammers. Utter disgrace and i feel for Orient as its hard enough for them as it is.

Now to read that it will cost £150m to convert it beggars belief. Distroying something without reason. Only in this country and London would a club like West Ham get a stadium that they dont deserve or need nevermind have a chance in hell of filling. :emoticon-0108-speec

They should share the ground with Orient, or not have it at all. I don't agree though that smaller clubs shouldn't have use of a facility like that, it works well in Germany for example where Bayern share with the other Munich club. The only downside is like we get with the eggchasers, animosity and a churned up pitch.

West Ham also have to chip in with £25M to help pay for the conversion.

So by your logic, Man City shouldn't have there stadium and it should be the home of athletics as well?

What is happening to the Boleyn Ground? I cant find that mentioned anywhere. Surely they'll sell it off and even with the money they're inputting for improvements and rent WHU will make a massive profit, which doesnt seem right. They should be paying more.
