This also seems strange. They have a facebook page that is regularly updated with news. There is no mention of this until 16 hours ago, and not a single post from anyone else discussing it on their page. I would have thought they would have had something to say straight away and not 4 days later.

I agree, it is strange it's taken so long. Plus I wasn't at the game and you were, so I understand why you've questioned the legitimacy of the article.

Lets hope it's exaggerated. Things like this aren't what we want to see or hear this day and age. Had they just stood and watched the game and had a bit of banter the locals would have enjoyed it I'm sure.

Poor if true but calling them supporters of football is stretching it either way. Who knows. It does seem a bit strange and all Johnny come lately I have to say. Particularly in a week when Wigan's name is absolute dirt. Could be true but could also just be a PR exercise to deflect a bit of attention away from the behaviour of the manager, chairman and player who let themselves down at the weekend.

The buses in the pics on their website look to be North-East buses. FFS this is confusing :(

I would love to think the latter, however the pictures say otherwise.

Wigan would love to dish a bit of dirt out on us at the moment. They've gone from the great escapists to the premier league's most hated team in the last few days. Deservedly so IMO as well for the club itself, not the fans.

I believe I've already mentioned on another article, how warm and friendly the Box Office staff and the Stewards inside the ground were. Indeed I've had a message from their Box Office since the game.

We could contact NUST and get them to organise a whip round to fund the replacement of the posts etc, £200 to repair the reputation of our travelling fans would be a small price to pay...

    - oh dear, I spoke too soon, by literally minutes, just went back to NewsNow and its all been flowing in. But, I expect it was all copied off this original article, I stand by what I said that if this had happened on Sunday it would have been reported elsewhere by now

    this stinks of bull****

an article is published this morning, then all the major news agencies copy it, are we really to believe that this happened and NONE of the major news agencies found anything out about it when the focus for a week has been very much on the toon and Wigan. That NOT ONE of the players or the photographer(s) in the matches has contacted any of the major news agencies trying to sell this story or the pictures, particularly in light of what has happened this week ? Pictures that if sold exclusively to a newspaper would have netted £1000s

They are obviously keen to talk about it (everyone is running a story now within a couple of hours of the initial report) yet none of them knew anything about it until now ?

where is the proof of where those pics were taken ? anyone recognise anything in the skyline ?

Would we really be questioning this story if the Mackems were the culprits? Or any other club for that matter.

What would it really take to stage a scene of tens/hundreds of NUFC fans invading pitch and destroying the kit?

I may be a mile off the mark here but I just can't see a few hundred Toon fans(allegedly) turning up at a minor fixture to create havoc as reported, to say the whole thing is suspicious is at best an understatement. If, as WP says it's a publicity stunt to deflect attention from the extremely unsporting behaviour from Wigan over last Sunday's events then it shows them up in an even poorer light. However if indeed it is true then god knows what the world's coming to.

It does seem unlikely, but it also seems strange that it has taken so long to come out. I think that perhaps its a case of it being bigger news than it would have been because of how big the story on the Wigan - Newcastle match became. The pics look like it is mainly kids, and although the vandalism and disrespect to the clubs and players involved has to be condemned, the fact that this was not a violent situation perhaps made it less newsworthy until somebody saw a chance to publicise the events on the back of the other events. I don't know. What i do know is that I feel really disappointed that we are being represented in this light.

    - true, but I just wouldn't care about other clubs to look closely lol,

I don't doubt something happened, somewhere, and was photographed, and that there were a few folk in toon tops present, but that actually proves nothing, so I am applying my 'don't believe everything you see on the internet' filter.

If such clear, verifiable photographic evidence has existed for 5 days, why has it taken so long to see the light of day ? That is a serious question all things considered

    This is old news.
At the weekend this story 'broke' (I'm sure it was even mentioned on here but can't be arsed trawling back) and apparently the non league team were noted as laughing their heads off... and calling it a 'pitch invasion' etc.
Odd that there is such a gap before the story is recycled.
A cynic would say it is an attempt by folk in Wigan to deflect attention away from the **** storm currently engulfing their town. :emoticon-0138-think

Surprised to see you in this version of the thread ACS as I presumed you were loitering in the mackem version as you seemed to have spilled a few chips on their shoulders while you were there!
