Just read this on twitter from someone playing football in a Sunday league game.

Disgraceful behavior and it really pisses me off that not only these arseholes think they have the right to treat others like this, but the fact they are NUFC fans who are representing our club. I've only pasted half the article because of the length, but the link is:
    http://www.wigancosmos.co.uk/club-statement-newcastle-fans/4574853038

    Club Statement - Match Disturbance

It is with regret that the club has to report on the following
    disturbances by a section of around 250 - 300 so-called Newcastle
United fans during The Cosmos South Lancashire Counties Premier
Division Fixture Vs AFC Leigh Centurions on Sunday 17th March at
the Scott Lane pitches adjacent to the Wigan Soccerdome which is
situated next to the away supporters’ car and coach park in Wigan.

After about 15 minutes of the game, at approximately 2.15 pm,
several coaches arrived at the car park. As the supporters spilled out
of the coaches, which were not managed by the club or police
officials, they proceeded to watch the game from the touchline. Some fans then chose to run onto the field of play, dropping their pants, causing the game to be stopped. The situation then magnified as a crowd around 250 – 300 Newcastle United fans followed suit. Although good natured at first, the fans then started to rip out corner flags as they ran over the pitches and also took the match ball. We never recovered the ball, though we did manage to recover the corner flags.

The so-called fans then decided to charge over to the adjacent pitch where Goose Green Reserves were entertaining Olympic AFC in another South Lancashire Counties Fixture. They again began by ripping out their corner flags. The fans then charged into the goalmouth, jumping onto the goalposts in an attempt to snap the crossbar with the sheer numbers clambering on them. They then started to rip the nets from the posts, tearing them and trying to take them. Our players helped to retrieve the nets. After spending quite some time singing and hanging on the goalposts the fans then ran back over to our pitch whilst singing “we’re Newcastle United, we’ll do what we want.”

They then charged our goals, jumping on the goalposts again actively trying to tear the nets and rip them off the goalposts and take the nets. The nets were actually ripped, with pegs taken and net clips also ripped off. These fans again took corner posts for a second time, ripping off the flags and actively trying to snap the posts. Eventually the posts were taken and thrown and later retrieved but are now, without flags and the posts, unusable. Once again I would like to stress that, despite the obvious scenes developing, no support was provided from the authorities.

This incident was a very distasteful experience that lasted for over 40 minutes and with families, dads, grandad’s and youngsters all watching the games as well as some quite experienced players who were all left shaken. There was total disregard to costly equipment for an amateur side who rely on players’ subscriptions and kind sponsors who are becoming harder to come by at grassroots level due to the current economic climate. A match ball that cost us £65 only two weeks prior to the incident, along with corner flags, nets, pegs and clips that did not require replacing but now need replacing due to the mindless vandalism from these so called football fans and more than likely lads who themselves play for amateur sides in the North East. There will be a cost to our club of somewhere in the region of £200 to buy new equipment that would not normally need replacing. This may sound miniscule to a Premier League Club that receives mass income from a variety of sources but it is a significant debt to an amateur non-profit football club that raises its funds from charity events and the weekly charge put on its players to allow them to enjoy a game of sport...

Why would several coaches of Newcastle fans go to a Mickey Mouse game of football so far away?

Not sure mate. All I'm saying is that assuming this is true, it's pathetic, is it not?

I assumed that the car park was near the DW, otherwise it doesn't quite make sense. Quite an elaborate tale though if made up...

But assuming it isn't true it's giving a dog a bad name that might stick.

It's best to make posts about factual things that you know to be true than rubbish things that may not be true.

If I was you I'd delete your post now before you get a lot of bad reaction to it.

AB, 98% of what we post on here is about reports of things that may or may not be true - - we certainly have no way of knowing. I can't see any reason why this shoudl be any different, even though it is just about the most disappoint thing for members of the board to hear about (while our ownership, management and players are from tiem to tiem pathetiic, we generally can point with pride to the clubs supporters).

This is as reliable as most things, and more relevant to us as supporters than most. Do not delete please.

Thanks Freddd, I had no intention of deleting it.

Getting a bad reaction on forum where nobody knows who I am doesn't bother me in the slightest. I am more worried that you are so quick to dismiss this story as a lie, rather than agree that this is disappointing behavior. Were you one of those so called fans?

Clearly, I love NUFC and want other fans to see us as passionate, well behaved fans. I want other fans to welcome us when we play away.

What would be the point of a forum if every post is ridiculed for the fact it wasn't known to be 100% true? Indeed I hope it's made up - maybe someone can give a different account of last Sunday's events?

OK, so there's been a big pitch invasion and mass vandalism involving 'several hundred' NUFC fans in Wigan, within hours of a horror tackle that has been the biggest bit of football news for the last few days and a google search for: 'wigan cosmos match disturbance' pulls up nothing but the this linked report, so not one national journalist has picked up on this story ?

I can only see a few toon tops in the pictures anyway and no proof the pictures were taken. This could even be libelous

There looks like quite a few people there to me. I never wear a Toon top to the match and I go to every home game. It's fair to assume that everyone getting off those coaches was a Toon fan if some of them had Toon tops on isn't it?

Don't shoot the messenger here, I'm just sharing an article I found. I don't agree with the vandalism and lack of care and respect for other people and their property clearly evident in those pictures.

Ok so it's not mass homicide or assault, but nonetheless it's still barbaric behavior. This was clearly before the game, so I don't understand why you think journalists would be there? Clearly the events of the game overshadowed this. Forgive me, but can you not see people swinging on the cross bar and ripped nets, with a few players dotted around?

What else do you think happened here?

I wasn't there and am willing to keep an open mind, but the number of coaches there and the number of people in Newcastle tops means that there is a chance that this story is credible.

However, a lot of us - myself included - have been on our moral high horses this week about a football club and set of fans who were burying their collective head in the sand and ignoring the evidence that representatives of their club had done wrong. For us to then just want to hide from this and not even be willing to consider that it might have happened would be hypocritical in the extreme. I hope that the reports are exaggerated, but they may not be. If they are not then we should all be willing to condemn those who acted in a way that brought the name of the club and its fans into disrepute. Two wrongs don't make a right.

    Indeed.

The spirit of the newcastle supporters that I like to believe are the majority might be to take whip around to pay for the broken posts, etc. I can spare a fiver

I think it all sounds odd, especially the fact that it has taken so long to come out. It also seems to be strange that the timing of it is just as Newcastle seems to have universal sympathy for the weekend's events, just as Wigan have almost universal criticism. If they wanted a diversion this would seem perfect. I just feel that because of how outspoken we have been we have virtually a duty to be willing to look at ourselves and our own when accused of wrongdoing. I'm not suggesting hanging people on the say so of one report, just not dismissing it either. I wasn't having a pop at you in what I said. I just wonder if there will be those looking for the first time that we stick up for one of our own who has done wrong - and if we blindly supported them as some others elsewhere have done then they would have a point. In my opinion anyway.

If they're arse's, they're arse's, but I was at the game and heard nothing before, during, or after the game about a disturbance of this nature. I'd have thought if it did happen, word would have soon spread about it and yet this is the first I've heard about it almost a week later.
