A couple of decent EW shouts tomorrow all from the Scott Dixon yard and most have been knocking at the door on the AW recently and should be stripped fit:

3.00 STYLISTICKHILL 20/1
3.35 THREES GRAND 25/1
4.05 PICENO 12/1
5.20 DOCOFTHEBAY 7/1

I will also have dabble in that race on that fine filly Ruth Carrs only runner of the day GLORIAM at a very nice 25/1 get on this one early.

Dont think ive ever been so disinterested in the start of a flat season as i have been for this one! Ill stick with the jumps tomorrow and nominate these -

2.40 Newbury Plein Pouvoir 9/2 Clearly quite a quirky character and impossible to predict but if tomorrow is a going day i think he can take this as all his rivals have questions to answer and Double Dash doesnt set too high a standard.

4.25 Newbury Shotavodka 11/4 Won very impressively the last twice since dropped to 2m and can see him being too good for these

My annual dart at the Brocklesby has hit MICK'S YER MAN. Not many better than Bill Turner at getting a juvenile ready and this one is reportedly well forward. A claimer on board to make the most of any allowances going I will be surprised if he doesnt go close.

 

I quite fancied Stylistickhill too Wayward but my enthusiasm was tempered when I saw he was 4lb out of the handicap.

 

Agreed Stick, but I have to stick with him, would hate to miss out if he romps home one day. I just think the connections feel he has a win in him off this mark and the extra 7lb off could be the difference.

 

Agree this goes close targetted a race he has won 6 times in the past and slotted in his most forward juvenile for this. Nice 7lb claimer. My nap today also MICKS YER MAN.

I put up Baltic Prince two weeks ago at 40s he didn't try a leg that day and subsequently finished 2nd at 6s and 1st at 5/2....should win tonight at Wolverhampton....same source tells me to expect a big run from AERODYNAMIC in the 5.20 Doncaster. I will play all three of these today.

 

Will be very surprised if Doncaster is on.

Nightmare sort of ground to be backing first time out 2 year olds amd suspect a lot of thw flat form will be useless from these early exchanges.

The sooner it dries out the better. Do not need a mental 2000 and 1000 Guineas again do you! Mind, they are some weeks away.

I see that old Donny are inspecting again at 11 am re today’s racing and at noon today re tomorrow’s racing! Now there’s a case of another groundsman building up his part!

Nothing again for me today, troops, but as the old regular readers are aware there’s one out tomorrow that I’ve been waiting a few weeks for – Wilde Blue Yonder in the rich bumper across the county line. Hopefully it will be a case of the saddle monkey shaking the reins, kicking him in the belly, slapping him on the rump and the old boy galloping off into the Wilde Blue Yonder, what, what?!?

I see that old boy Gosden is 7/1 to retain the old Flat Trainers title. Has he got very little ammo this term then??? I’m guessing those bookie chappies think so as that seems a big, big price for the man who was so dominant last term. You can get 9’s about Sir Michael and I’ll tell you what if the likes of Telescope and Liber Nauticus fulfil there potential that could look very big.

Nothing today for me...a completely uninspiring curtain raiser to the new turf season...moderate horses on soft ground doesn't excite me.

Newburys card is pretty poor as well but I suppose NH racing is allowed to have a post Cheltenham hangover.

Snowed in here and be amazed if Downpatrick gets the go-ahead on Sunday...shame since my three weekend fancies are engaged there and I was planning a visit.

Played the Brocklesby last year and somehow snared the winner so it would be rude not to have another crack. Donny Rover 7/1 nicely bred type for whom soft ground shouldn't be an issue

1.25 - I was going to go with Sleepy Joe of the Channon yard, but he is a non runner. I have heard that if you like ginger and grey things, with a propensity to act like a wheeler dealer, then Mick's Yer Man.

I however think that the money should go onto is Donny Rover, trained by Charles Smith who is an unlikely trainer for me to backing with juveniles. However, I really like a few things about this horse, firstly he is from the family of Mac Love and Club Oceanic, both good horses in their own right, and he is by Excellent Art, a sire who has a 22% strike rate with his progeny on soft going.

The breeding for this horse is interesting, he is out of a 1m4f winning dam, but he is half brother to a horse who was a very talented sprinter and he has plenty of speed in the pedigree from his sire who was a top class juvenile over 6 furlongs. He therefore has the stamina and speed that I think is going to be important in this testing going for these early season horses.

He was a relatively expensive purchase at £95000 and is owned by the football agent Willie McKay who knows a good horse as he owned Les Arcs.

I have also backed the two Easterby horses in the last two handicaps on the card, both should relish conditions and I make Day Of The Eagle my nap of the day, as he should have a very fair gallop to run off. Aerodynamic is the other and with Fallon on top, I think he has an excellent chance.

I've never seen the like of the rain here in Ireland about 36 hours of torrential non stop rain and high winds, any meeting will certainly struggle here if this keeps up over the weekend. Also suprised Doncaster goes ahead i seen that Leeds/Bradford airport is closed due to adverse weather so it must be bad around that area too.

Had planned a few bets for today but think i am just going to watch now as not too bothered getting involved with the conditions. I like the Fahey horse in the Brocklesby Lord Clyde and see that a little money has come for the horse this morning so usually a positive sign in these maidens but about 3-4 others have seen decent support too so very tricky to call. I think Classic Colori is set to run another good race in the 4:10 too after back to back wins on the AW, again the ground is key here but possibly a good E/W propositon as i feel he'll be there abouts again hopefully.
