Its obvious that we have a bigger sponsor. 32Red have been bought out of their final year - so every one's a winner!
Marketing in football today is huge business: It seems a long time ago now that Kettering Town became the first English club to adopt shirt sponsorship when, in January 1976, they took to the field with the words `Kettering Tyres` emblazoned across their collective chests. This simple move changed the face of English football forever as Liverpool quickly followed with their Hitachi sponsorship deal. As the sponsored shirt phenomenon grew, a simple yet clever marketing trick crept into the game. Prior to this point, the football fan only had to buy one replica shirt and that lasted as long as the shirt itself. Now, we had to buy a new shirt every year as sponsors and new kits came and went. Today the replica shirt industry is worth vast amounts of money. With printers even charging by the letter for named shirts, it`s cheaper to have Nani than El Chicharito! The largest football market is now in the Far East and English teams haven`t been slow to make their mark there. With English football readily available in countries such as Japan and South Korea, football is big business and there is no better way to grow your following than to have a player from the Far East in your squad. While footballers such as Park Ji-Sung have undoubtedly brought something to their clubs. So my guess is that we will have some kind of Korean casino or beer as our sponsor next. ... I am not bothered who is on our shirts as long as we keep our identity.
Cardiff had that noble thought as well ,although a different animal owner/sponsor .Just be careful what we wish for
A sponsor is totally different to a owner. 32Red had no ownership rights and neither will the new sponsor. We would need to worry if the Clubs ownership changes hands.
Maybe 32red will sponsor cardiff now. Red is the lucky colour, as we all now realise, and by the time Tan has finished with the club there will probably only be around 32 supporters left.
When does the deal for the naming rights of the stadium end guys? Should be able to get a tidy deal there as well when its up for renewal.
Bit of a bollock dropped by Chelsea when they signed Djemba Ba !! only two bloody letters to print, must have lost a fortune. Very intresting points Jackson, i wonder if the club have the right experts involved in this next phase of our development, i know they have taken a marketing guy on to handle S Korea but judging by the calamity of the club shop and other merchandise issues we are still seriuosly small time when it comes to cashing in on the potential!! If the club is to be beleived ,there is a 4/5 month lead up time in ordering shirts, we have got this tricky thing wrong a few times, even when umbro were doing the kit so how do we make the leap from frugal to speculate/accumalate. I beleive we are lagging behind and have been lagging behind in this department for a while, have we got the right people to control the buisness side of things and to fufill our potential? This move certainly sounds big news, but all the advertising in the world doesnt mean anything if you cant shift the product out of the store due to lack of stock !! No shirts at Xmas again this year?? lets hope not !
Could it be that the reason they didn't go with getting **** loads more jerseys in is because they knew months and months ago this was happening Norway ? It must mean the new sponsor has already been chosen, as Leigh Dineen said it takes about 5-6 months for an order to go in and to complete. It does make some kind of sense, they would be left with maybe thousands of jerseys that they would have to go on the cheap. Rather than thinking its bad business sense it could be now seen as sound business sense, yes they got caught with their pants down a little, but its impossible to know what could have happened since Ki joined us. Onwards and upwards is the right philosophy I think
Anybody have an inkling on who the new sponsor might be? As Jager has suggested, it might be the reason why there has been a lack of availability regarding football shirts over the past few months.
Jager- I thought about that but to me having a thousand shirts left over in a centenery year wouldnt be a bad thing! its an iconic Jersey and one that people may well have bought more than one of! It could have a place in the club shop in centenery corner"get your piece of Histoy" with the gold club badge etc, etc. if we are opening up to markets abroad there would have been many who would have bought them anyway, look at the market for retro and old stuff in the football mags, if it was 1000 or 3000 its still peanuts in terms of money, what they get them for is not what they sell them for !! We have form in being poor at this kind of thing as well, same problem with umbro a few seasons back, i dont think its because the club knew they were changing sponser i think its because they knew they were having a new shirt and didnt want a surplus of stock. From all my time dealing with the club shop there has always been a strong sense of plucky amature having a go ! im just hoping we go for being professional in ALL departments, if we are playing on the big stage we have to maximise our potential. I saw a twitter pic with Chico flores and a load of Korean fans ,they all had bought Swans stuff and judging by what they were wearing it was only the clubs own line of clothing that they had, surely people from anywhere should be able to lay their hands on our Jerseys ?? Anyway ,spilt milk and all that !! lets hope they have all the bases covered next season, if we can stay at the prem league we have to go with Hummell of Denmark, they will give us what ever we need unlike at addidas where we are bottom of the **** pile as they cater for teams like Madrid etc,etc
Missed opportunity no doubt about that , even the fakes were selling for silly prices in the days leading up to the final , By the way imo one of the nicest looking tops we've had .
One of the nicest we've ever had and its a centenary shirt do it could have been on the shelves for ages and still would have been relevent! if the club made 5000 and sold them for £40 quid a pop they would sell them no trouble, Korea would probably buy most of them in the first few weeks !
I don't see it like that as Ki signed for us on the 24th August, that is a week after the season started. Now consider it takes about 5-6 months for orders to go through, they would have to have been crystal ball users to know in February/March 2012 that they would need extra shirts. And as the demand soared in the next 2-3 months, they must have reached a decision to get out of the 32Red sponsorship deal in that period. So it's what to do as it would only now that those shirts would be in, then this announcement about 32Red. I'm not defending them here, but they must have had one hell of a debate about this, and decided not to risk buying more in, this would have been a boardroom decision not like Huw making a decision alone. I think they must have wished for things to have been different back this time last year, like ordering an extra 5k shirts, but without the benefit of hindsight they couldn't have done anything different. Yes it's a missed opportunity but we do see this with that hindsight, last year it would have been impossible to predict.
