I don't think he's quite Premier League quality, sadly. He'll always be welcome in Norwich though. Had we never bought him, we'd probably still be in the Championship, so I hope that, if he does move on, he'll have a successful career.

In the 14 goals Van Wolfswinkel has scored this season, 0 have been from the penalty spot (although granted of his 88 goals in top flight football, 18 were penaltie) His record in the Portuguese PL is a goal every 3 games.

I may have missed this whilst reading through but you are paying upfront for him? As in in the next few days and then he joins you on the 1st of July...

I have to say that's a bold move if the moneys are to be transferred before he walks through the door as what's to stop him from getting a serious injury in the remaining weeks of the season? On the plus side quite a coup for the club so well done <ok>

Yeah I have been thinking that as I think at Championship level he is a 15 goals a season player, premiership he is average. Hopefully he will move onto another good club and play quiet a bit as I want to see him do well.
Would love him back at Gillingham but I know that would not happen.

IF these reports are true, RVW will have been proper scouted and I mean PROPER scouted by us. There is no way on God's earth we would be paying a record £10M fee for him if City didn't think he would cut it big time in the EPL <ok>

IF the Portuguese reports are to be believed we will be gambling the upfront payment KOPR mentions against getting a player with a 20m euro get out clause for 10m euro's. A gamble yes but if CH feels that he is the man getting him for an affordable price then one worth taking. We also don't know if there is an escape clause if we were to do down or if he were to get injured - I doubt it but who knows?

Even though this has not been confirmed by official sources I am excited and I reckon this must be what fans of big clubs feel like when they sign their top men.

Who'd have thought five years ago we'd be in the market for a 10m euro player? Bloody marvellous.

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is what sort of salary we will be paying him ? Again it's bound to be a record for us and there will then be the issue of other senior pros here probably wanting their salaries brought in line. Mind you, if the Club Shop sells enough of his replica shirts City will make a mint with all of those letters on the back ! <laugh>

I think that in the tradition of the 1970's sitcom wolfie should be nicknamed Foxy!

When we were talking about him in the transfer window I believe someone mentioned he was earning less than our current cap.

salaries in Portugal are very low kickitoff, doubt he is on anywhere near our top earners, so he is likely to get a very good pay rise without us breaking the bank.

Sporting Lisbon says in regulatory stock-market filing it's in talks to trade Wolfswinkel to Norwich. No mention of possible fee.

From the Sporting statement it looks like a pretty much done deal.

The stock market statement from Sporting says that RVW's transfer negotiations are 'ongoing', which is why the club hasn't made any announcements. £8.5m is an approximation of 10m euros, which is the more definite figure. To put that in perspective, RVW is said to have had a 22m euro buy out clause in his contract, so 10m euros seems to be good value. The £3.3 euros up front may be non-refundable, so City must be willing to take the risk. If that isn't ambition (which Newcastle and Liverpool seem to lack), then I don't know what is! Fingers crossed.
