I could never follow any other club even if I tried. I once had to search deep within my soul as to what I would do if QPR went bust. After much deliberation I couldn't name one single club that even came close to being worthy of my support. Whenever I went to games involving other teams I had no emotion as to what was being played out in front of me at all. In answer to the OP question... It's a no from me. In the same way that I could never cheat on my wife, I could never cheat on my team.
Ok nines..but what about those on here who do cheat on thier wives, girlfriends (cerny old bird), kids, jobs and mortgages.? can you see the hypocysy in this? i for one am QPR totally through and through, but in my earlier days when i couldnt get to man utd or villa etc i used to go to Fulham - div3; brentford-div3; arsenal div 1; southall; gmconf; harrow borough..etc.. I guess i just love the game. QPR wil ALWAYS be my team 9because of that bloody tattoo ) but i just enjoy watching footbal played the way it should be...on the ground with skill.....the QPR way.... i guess thats why i love La Liga and rate the players (wronly sometimes it seems) like granero. Id rather watch El classico than Man Utd v A.N.Other pretend team...just personal preference.. as a plus for Dt, French football is mile ahead of the prem as well. the style, tactics, and skill far surpass what we have..that another argument. So, how many divorcee's on this site how many people sold thier "first love" car? How many moved from thier "family house' to a better option? how many left the country? how many never even lived in the country; so have no affiliation? etc i love this post. I got it from else where but honestly believe it to be the best post I have ver read on any forum...regardless of your own opinions. you thougth tarbs generated debate..this is "i hate tarbs" X 10! some very good replies on the orig site, and if need be I'll paste a link to some of them....just want to see how this board would accept this post. Debate.....
The bloke has just done what I did over 20 years ago - stopped supporting Man U from afar (he hid that REALLY well) to opt for a team that gives a proper appreciation of what the game means. He can apply all the rationale he likes but he's basically doing as an adult what a pre-pubescent QPR Matt did with about the same level of insight. Don't think he deserves credit for it...
First thoughts on this were the same as Eamon's. 'Course I'll be watching another team next year. Have been chopping and changing for the last 3 years now - and one every few months for the last two. Does make you wonder quite what it is we're supporting here. Probably just the name and them 'oops (and now the fans cos of here) cos everything else changes all the time - or will do. Thing is, I'm a fan of good, honest, battling football. Like your man QPR back there, got a real soft spot for AFCW (for the way them fans refused to let their club die like that); and for Inverness Cally cos I've got links to the place and watch them when I'm up there. Back in 70/71 watched Arsenal all through their double season and loved that team (McLintock, Storey, Radford, Sammels, Graham, Kennedy, Charlie George). It started when I had to take a foreign visitor there, tickets on him - and got hooked. Just had to see the next thrilling episode... 'Hate' 'em nowadays though, especially since Wenger. It's great seeing all of these sort of sides, and the various 'charisma clubs' that rise and fall every so often, winning their way through one thing or another. When they lose though, it's a real shame and everything - BUT doesn't rip me guts out like when Rangers do, nor do their names jump off a page like Rangers does - and when I'm down LR, **** as the place seems compared to other grounds sometimes, it FEELS like home. I've been coming there on a reasonable reg since I was 13. In fact, for me, it's the only place that's remained a constant throughout my life and times. Yes I'll be following Rangers next term, as last. It's in the name - but equally in the blood! URRRsss!!
great post Brix....but did you not sell your first car that was your second home, holds more happy memories than HQ and has prob got you laid more times than Adel.....? So have you upgraded? im playing devils advocate here...just want to hear others views.....i think the op blogg is totally valid...BUT..i would never leave my QPR...! i think this is the best ever debated subject on any forum & I'm gonna copy/paste another retort that may put the cat amongst he pidgeons... Respect to all that "KEEP THE FAITH"
Lands End if you're a Plymouth fan ditching them (he does specifically mention Ridsdale, although that could be applied to almost anyone)? Torquay and Exeter are obviously the nearest clubs you could switch to, were they both out of the league at the same time a few years ago?
Queens, we probably all have a likening for some other team, whether it be for whatever reason .................. but i guess I based my thoughts around being that I would never quit QPR, just because they may get relegated or whatever. As I said, no true QPR supporter would do such a thing. As a ten year old QPR fan, I used to also like watching Wolves and I can still remember a couple of Frank Worthington goals, one in particular, caught on the half volley from between the halfway mark and the goal/ penalty box. An absolute screamer !!!!! There were many individuals that made a youngster like myself, really enjoy watching many a team on TV. ( Brian Moore with The Big Match )........ I used to buy SHOOT Magazines every week and read em' till there was no print on them, ha................... but when it came down to the crunch, I've only supported one team and I'm happy with that.
Fair enough aus and Im the same....thing is though, if we were at Hq paying our hard earned and getting treated like some of our faithfull do....who could blame them... for me, I'll always be QPR, but the op has some good points. Our football team is the only thing we hang onto even when its ****e....we ditch our girls, cars, jobs, lifestyle, careers, and everything else. Girls swap teams for fun....so ..why oh why do we cling on to something that we hate, despair, not enjoy, cry over, agrgue over, fall out with family about; argue about on forims with people we have never met.....etc....? Why not just change and be happy?
I'll always be Rss through & through, see other matches but as 999's said i can't get any emotion about the game, i do look out for albion rovers in scottish league they are now in 2nd but look to be going down again, been following there results for years now as they've always been around the bottom of league 3, don't know why just felt sorry for them.
'Jeffranger' .............. probably for the best part of 25 years, I've always kept an eye on both Queens Park and Queen of South, because of their likeness to the name, Queens Park Rangers.
Sadly..always done the same fr a club that are now better than us...Foolham....was a Marsh thing at first then just loved the Cottage..buut that was in the Jimmy hill closing down years... So; why should i be a Fulham fan if we go down ?
