Hi, as I'm the new boy here, I thought I'd start with this thread. Apologies if it's been posted before but it would be interesting to hear from you. My father was in the Royal Air Force in the sixties and was posted overseas. After stints in the Far East, London, Yorkshire and, yes, Suffolk, he was posted to RAF Coltishall and Norwich in 1974. I first saw City on television in the 1975 League Cup Final. I was actually attracted to the bright colours as I wasn't into football yet. So there, the roots were sown! It was the good old RAF.
I was born in Langley, near Loddon, we moved to Suffolk when I was only four, but my Dad was a lifelong Norwich fan and started taking me when I was about ten or eleven, I've been hooked ever since!
Guess there's going to be a lot of these! Glad to hear our family's first Norwich-born has done likewise!
I was in the RAF and posted to RAF Neatishead in the early 70's and got married whilst there, so went to a few games then. I returned to Norwich on leaving the RAF just over 20 years ago, so purchased my first season ticket 6 years ago.
Was rather a dull answer, I don't have an interesting story behind it lol. My dad is a NCFC supporter though, so I guess that helped.
My dad came from Sheringham and took me to my first game in 1969. There was no other team in the running after that.
I recall my father talking about RAF Neatishead. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I'm so glad I took him to Reading away in 2004. I will always be grateful to that referee and Phil Mulryne!
I was born in King's Lynn. My Dad took me to a Norwich game when I was 6. I've been hooked ever since.
My Dad's born in Norwich and grew up in Yarmouth where he would attend home matches and follow city all around the country even when moved to the Midlands in his early 20's he would still attend as many games as possible, so it was brainwashed into us at a young age to militantly support City whatever the odds are.
No worries you local guys lol. It's fantastic there's such support for your local club! I went to secondary school in Oxfordshire in the 70s/80s. Most were Liverpool supporters. I thought one of the kids was a Coventry fan. I popped into a shop in 2005 and met him again. We talked football and found out he was a Norwich fan because his dad was from Norfolk! We've been to a few games since.
Well the same as Northamptonncfc because we are brothers. It was either Northampton or Norwich or no one haha
I didn´t become one at all I was born one, then when I could crawl, Right there at my feet Along with a teat My first yellow Canary ball Then shortly after I could talk And when I got tired of a walk, My Dad would lift me To sit comfortably On high where I viewed like a hawk From a position on his back I saw every shot and attack, Yes those were the days Now a bit of a haze But not faded quite into black.
In fairness we were given the option to sport Northampton as well, but since they were then struggling back then in League 4 or 3 and there was a slim to zero chance we would of gone to the County Ground and Sixfields to watch a game, so it was quite an easy choice which I've never regretted.
raised in Foulden, near Swaffham, in the 50's. none of my family were into sport so i had no influences, just automatically followed my local team. never got to see them live till i left home and joined the RAF ( there seems to be a lot of us who follow the Canaries ).
Despite being born in Norwich, neither of my parents are from Norfolk, or that into football, so there was no pressure to be a Norwich fan. My cousin who's a few years older than me was football mad though, and for one of his birthdays went to a Norwich game, there was a spare ticket so I ended up going. A 0-0 with Bury in horrible weather, but somehow I enjoyed it enough to want to go back. Went to a few odd games, then had a season ticket for 3 seasons, seeing the slide into League 1, and the promotion back out of it. Sadly university took me away from Norfolk so I gave up the season ticket. It's mainly pre-season friendlies and away games for me now, but Premier League teams are surprisingly a fair distance from Sheffield, the closest being Manchester or probably Stoke.
Born in great Yarmouth as my parents moved to Norfolk for work, so anothersimple one Butmoved away when I was 18 Thank god my parents did move to the fine county otherwise I would have been a Luton fan like some of the family
