Apparently Caterham are possibly going to quit F1! Tony Fernandes Supprise supprise is bored of F1 (cant hack being a loser)
Yes. Fernandes never struck me as as committed as say, Branson, for instance. Will be interesting to see what he does. Irrelevant to thread; this is a note to myself: Blimey, I've never seen three as's within four words before! I wondered about fixing the grammar; but it's correct (needs to be read with emphasis on 'as committed'. Right. Must get back to the day job… And yeah, I'll get me coat…
It would be a shame to lose yet more teams (and further proof of the economic imbalance in F1 which Ecclestone continues to encourage at great cost to the sport) but it wouldn't surprise me if Caterham decided to quit. Marussia are hardly in great financial shape themselves - hence why the more committed Branson had to seek the support of a little-know Russian sports car maker (and it can't just be me remembering Spyker can it?) plus we must remember that, although it's in part due to the fact that they haven't had time to catch up in terms of development (insert another dig at Ecclestone here), both teams are still hanging around at the tail end of the field - they're closer than they've ever been but still not close enough to pick up any prize money.
I don't think it will be so easy with QPR, he's run them that far into the ground. If he lets them go into administration he'll effectively be bankrupt and lose his other businesses. The guy's a clown.
What was he thinking buying the club from Bernie and Flab? If they dont think its a money maker than what did he expect?
http://www.yallaf1.com/2013/03/18/perez-ferrari-often-asked-me-to-take-care-of-alonso/ I wonder if the people who fly into a rage about Red Bull having two teams get as hot under the collar about this.
When did Perez yield to Alonso like those spineless douchebags at Toro Rosso do whenever they see a Red Bull in their mirrors? What Perez says, it's just a mistranslation. How typical of a British site to jump on anything that suits their anti-Ferrari agenda. It's almost as bad as Mark "I hate Ferrari" Hughes saying that a strong Massa is a bad thing What Perez actually says is that Ferrari told him not not to do anything silly when racing against Alonso - ie don't crash into him. But of course if the word he uses literally translates to "take care", it's too good an opportunity to miss! Then the anti-Ferrari losers can add their own hate-driven garbage into the article --> "and provide him with easy passage when and if the opportunity arose.....the famous Italian team uses its political links in the paddock for a performance advantage." Idiots.
I think reality is probably between Forza and the article, but probably much closer to Forza. Whether a deliberate effort or not, Perez wouldn't want to bite the hand that feeds him, ie annoy Ferrari when he's part of their academy, with a decent chance of a race seat there. When in close competition with Alonso (or Massa), Perez would probably subconciously fight a little less, and is much less likely to go for a daring overtake, throwing it down the inside for example. Have Ferrari gained an advantage? Yes. Is there anything they can really do about it? No. Are Red Bull worse with Toro Rosso? Almost certainly- Vergne and Ricciardo (and Buemi and Alguesuari before) are/were petrified of losing their Toro Rosso seats, never mind a potential Red Bull seat. Whether there's inter-team orders or not, Toro Rosso drivers are far more likely to get out of the way.
I think Perez genuinely made a mistake that day and bottled it under pressure the reason I say that is because in a similar situation in Italy he overtook Alonso and their were no orders there even at Ferrari's home race.
