Type in google 'giorgos katidis pointing'

Or just look at a few different sites for articles about it.

It's technically a facist salute. This would be understood to be the primary meaning in Greece and Italy. He's probably a Golden Dawn sympathiser as opposed to a Nazi sympathiser. I'm sure Di Canio has given that same salute loads of times and no one accused him of being a Nazi.

Quite a lot of people have actually, but even if you accept that he isn't one that doesn't make the gesture any less offensive. If I waggle my genitals at your wife or girlfriend in the street you're going to take exception to it even if I swear blind I'm not doing it in a sexual way.

Any chance of some mild forewarning for people when you write stuff like that, PSF..? I was just thinking of perhaps a cracker or three, with some cheese, read that and I reached. :)

You can walk the streets calling for Jihad you can burn another countrys flag also burn imitations of countrys leaders - there are so many distasteful and offensive things you can get away with - and he gets that - somewhat over the top methinks.

Not racist, as Germans are a nation rather than a race, but it's certainly unacceptable to make generalised comments like that. Fergie forgets he is a role model for millions of young people all over the world, and should watch his mouth.

How? They're both examples of things that are offensive no matter what the intent.

Fair warning, if you do any of those things in this country you're likely to be arrested.

Not racist, because he's talking specifically about German footballers not the nation as a whole. No more racist than saying Polish cars are crap.

And the rest of his family's heads as well as their great Uncle colluded with the Nazis.

With regards to the Greeks anyone who has had a holiday on Crete will know just how much they hate the Nazis and therefore know that they would have been appalled by this gesture.

Yes, I have, and you're quite right. My wife and I even experienced a couple of incidences where we were given preferential service over a German couple. To this day, the British are popular on Crete and the Germans are definitely not. For entertainment, watch that delightful old wartime film Ill Met By Moonlight, for clues to their modern day attitude.

I was in Yugoslavia some years ago and was quoted a high price for something. When we replied in English, the shopkeeper lowered his voice and said sorry he thought we were German...he then halved the price. The people in that area seriously hated the Germans...may have changed a bit now, but then it was all in living memory.

I thought they hated pretty much everyone. Whereabouts in Yugoslavia were you?

It's now Croatia (had to look that up, being unfamilar with their new boundaries), though we did move about a bit. Finished in Krankska Gora in the mountains...beautiful, but very primitive in the seventies. We were in a modern hotel, but they had cows in the ground floor of houses in the village.
They did seem to like the English...I bought one souvenir...paying what was asked. A child was sent running after me with a gift, so I think I paid too much.

Yeah, it's probably changed quite a lot in Croatia since then. Very progressive country now. The only grudge they hold now is against the Serbs. (They play each other on Friday by the way, it's going to be madness.)

With you there TSS. Was in Crete during a Euro Championship and the day Germany lost the place we were staying in went wild!
