No apologies for copying this paragraph from one of Cest's posts. I think it is the most realistic assessment of our performance over the last few years and our likely future, unless there is a Major shift in our fortunes. Changing the manager or trading a few players is not going to do it - Quote:- It's the very fact and sudden realisation that its never going to be any better than this. Scraping along the bottom of the tank feeding off the scraps nobody else wants. Always being utter failures; never winning anything; never playing in Europe; never amounting to anything other than a pile of ****e. I'm tired of spending all my adult life defending the club against constant ridicule and annual embarrassment. It's like a slow torture, once you get used to it is OK. We can get pleasure from our seasons in the Championship if we just accept that this is who we are
“It's a disease. Nobody thinks or feels or cares any more; nobody gets excited or believes in anything except their own comfortable little God damn mediocrity.” ― Richard Yates
Don't agree. Cest wrote that in a fit of despair. If you look at our history whilst I've been watching the team, it's always been up and down, but we have had a better time of it than most other clubs. What Cest was writing about was the disappointment of struggling when it looked like the next level was within our grasp. We have a good manager (how good currently under review, but his previous record is top notch) and had just bought quality in Fletch (9/10 - )and AJ (3/10 - must try harder). Yet on we labour into another relegation scrap. If we survive this season, then we can still be in a decent position with a few top players in and a few duff ones out. My glass is still half full, which means there's room for more beer
And out of the 92 football league clubs, I bet about 85 of these clubs supporters feel exactly the same. It's not just us.
But I don't think there are a set of fans in the country who are portraying such a collective air of despair like our fans are at the moment...
I have absolutely no interest in spending time in the Championship again. There is no glory or enjoyment stuffing a Bury or a Doncaster 5-0 at home in my eyes. I do wonder if we will ever amount to anything of real success in my time and still feel MoN offers us a fantastic long term opportunity to change the fortunes of this club but I dont think he will be afforded that opportunity now and I still cant see any positives just now.
