First thread so here goes. 2.40 Haydock THUNDERSTORM 6/5 Short priced but this race seems to be between the 2 market leaders with THUNDERSTORM very impressive LTO winning effortlessly and now looking to complete a 6 timer. Mccoy has rode this horse very smartly on his last few runs, just doing enough to win the race by a small margin. Raised 9lbs and against better horses but still looks to have 1 or 2 more wins in him before the handicapper catches up. At 6/5 this might not appeal to alot of people but its one Ill be backing. 4.20 Haydock SAFRAN DE COTTE 3/1 Has won 3 out of 5 over fences as well as winning over hurdles at this course 2 years ago. Loves the soft ground and should go well from the front. Simply wings is the main danger, beating festival winner Golden Chieftain LTO so market confidence would be no surprise. Mr Moonshine interesting in this race and left me wondering why the horse is running in a 2m4f handicap chase considering its entered into the national next month? In other news, OUR CONNOR has been sold to Barry Connell for a rumored 1 million.
4.20 Saffran De Cottes @ 3s I saw this one win at Chepstow in a very decent race, he jumped stylishly and I was really taken by the way he extended his advantage after the last despite racing with enthuisasm throughout the race. He drops in trip, but he should make it a real test and if he gets into a good rhythm he will be very hard to beat here. I am not worried about his flop in a handicap at Doncaster three runs ago (despite going up in the weights since) as I think he has taken his time to adapt to fences, but showed last time that he could be a nice progressive chaser in soft ground. I also like the fact he has won at Haydock, albeit over hurdles, it is a course that some like and others do not, and for me I think he is a fair enough price today. Not a massive bet but he is a horse I like.
Morning, pilgrims. Nothing for me today but those after winners need only follow one chap today - namely dear old Giddy Osborne. I’m sure he’ll provide winner, after winner, after winner, after winner later on this afternoon. Afterall, as they say round my way, ‘He’ll look after us will Giddy’. Good luck if you do wager though.
Yankee for me today... Thunderstorm 11/10 Robbie 3/1 Safran De Cotte 3/1 Annacotty 15/8 All BPG, good luck!!
Sprinter Sacre’s new official mark is 188 (up 9 pounds). Bobs Worth has gone up the same amount to 180. In my lifetime that makes Mr Henderson’s Black Aeroplane 2nd only to Kauto Star on official marks (with ample time to better him as well). Bobs Worth also rated a well above average CGC winner.
Very interesting that SS performance is only 2lb higher than MM, I guess that says that we need to see him against a proper horse, something like Flemenstar/Simonsig perhaps?
I have been pondering the 15-45 race for a while now, or in particular the two Ellison runners. I can't help feeling that there is something going on here but not sure what! As far as I can tell Brian Ellison never has 2 runners in the same race and these two - Ultimate and Red Inca - have the same owner. I don't know who Dan Gilbert is, but I'm pretty sure he is no JPMcM. The stable jockey, Danny Cook is on Red Inca, and of the two this one would seem to be better suited by the ground. However, Ultimate's form is actually better than it appears on first glance and Cook was onboard for all those. Ultimately (haha) I'll take the jockey hint and have a small ew wager on Red Inca, which pretty much guarantees a win for Robbie I suppose!
jesus watched 'a serbian film' last night,i think im scarred for lifeanyone else ever seen it,makes the film hostel look like a disney film.wouldnt think the serbian tourist board are to happy about it!
Interesting to wonder exactly what creditable competition is going to be around for Sprinter Sacre next term. Or does he have to beat exceptional horses to see his rating increase anyway??? Kauto got his 193 peak after beating (albeit easily) Madison Du Berlais, Barbers Shop and Nacarat.
I do not believe either Master Minded or Kauto Star ran to the high ratings they were given, hence why neither of them was ever able to back up that peak performance. The difference with SS, and what makes me believe he is genuinely a 190+ horse is that he backs it up each and every time he runs
Seen Hostel and that was disturbing enough, I don't think I could sit through anything worse. I like to be able to sleep at night
