Exactly, he must have had this character pre-prepared before ever getting any media exposure and has kept it up ever since. The guys not an actor, although he does 'play it up' a bit on an idiot abroad.
Oh aye, I don't dispute for one minute that he now on tv is an exaggerated version of his own personality. He's become very aware but he's still ace.
Ricky gervais is one of few comedians worth watching some shouldn't dare to call themselves comedians. Russell Brand talentless ****. Keith lemon ditto Jack Whitehall ditto
Agree with you I really love the Office and his podcasts with Steve Merchant and the one and only Karl Pilkington. But he really does have some utter ****e. His stand up is piss poor and his films are dire. I think he's a funny bloke, but I wouldn't call him a genius or anything.
I think he's good in Fresh Meat, but that might be more down to the writers (the same guys who wrote peep show) than his acting!
I think The Office is fantastic, as it seems most on here do, just brilliant. I enjoyed this new sketch too. I actually thought Animals was a decent stand up, not keen on the rest. Extras had some great moments, nowhere near as consistent as The Office. It's a shame sometimes when comedians suppress their best characters, but I suppose you don't want overkill. The Office, let's be honest, is not something you follow up easily.
Like Gervais, Mitchell, Whitehall, Lock, Lemon Hate Russel Brand and all those talentless ones that are on TV far too much like Bishop, Millican, Jo Brand and Alan Carr, how the **** does Carr get his own show? Mention to Norman Collier RIP
Gervais was reasonable in his early tv on that show with Daisy Donovan, but I know plenty that can't watch him and can only watch idiot abroad if they can fast forward any bits with him on.
The video is available on his Podcast feed (is that the right word?) on itunes as well. I was surprised it was free, with it being Comic Relief I thought there might have been some nominal charge, but it just came through when I updated the library.
