Back last Autumn I said I’d run starkers down my local High Street if either Hurricane Fly or Rock on Ruby won the 2013 Champion Hurdle. At least I was half right as Rock on Ruby didn’t oblige. Being a chap of my word though I duly completed my ‘penance’ and this had led to local businesses and tourist chiefs urging a similar performance every week as crowds from hundreds of miles away flocked to witness said event. However, I have politely said no to any future repeat. At least Hurricane Fly though won’t have an asterisk against his name for winning in 2013 like he did in 2011. Racing purists largely acknowledge that the latter triumph was largely down to those ‘unfortunate circumstances’ which robbed Binocular of his chance to participate. Had Mr Henderson’s superstar lined up in his pomp we all acknowledge the result would, most likely, have been very diffo different.
I did wonder why there was a "little sausage festival" in Chippenham over the weekend. Explains a lot, I am glad I didn't venture out.
For anyone who is feeling nostalgic I recommend the Cheltenham Gold cup article and the subsequent comments on the BBC website. It would seem that it's impossible for certain leopards to change spots.
