Seems to be justifying that tackle yesterday seemingly, and because Mark Halsey "didnt give anything" it was a fair tackle. One of the daftest things I've ever heard, McManaman could have moved his foot easily after winning the ball, he went straight in with his studs to the guys knee (and the left leg followed through). Also Halsey also didn't give anything simply because there was a 6 foot odd Newcastle player running right in his eyeline of the incident; it was the idiot linesman's fault for not giving anything whatsoever. I remember a tackle like this, nowhere near as bad but studs up at the home game against Leeds, ref didn't see it but the linesman gave it and White from Leeds got a booking (and probably should have been red)... this should have happened. Should at least be a 3 game ban. Simple.
Disgusting tackle this. You can't even say it was an accident they way he stamped down like that above the player's knee. His leg's gonna be proper ****ed the poor lad. Studs up in a slide tackle is one thing, but the way he's actually gone in so high and put so much force down into his leg was always going to do some serious damage.

This is spot on. Reminded me of the Keane vs Inge-Haaland tackle from years ago. How he could say it was an accident is beyond me. SSN is still saying this is "breaking news" so they must think it's a bit daft too. Apparently Mark Halsey's report should just have gone in so will be interesting to see what happens.
I'm not convinced it was malicious or there was intent, he got the ball and barely had anytime to readjust to avoid the player, if you watch it again it also looks like his standing foot slips, making it even harder for him to pull out. You could argue his foot shouldn't have been there in the first place and you'd be right but I still don't think he went in looking to hurt the player. I'm not trying to justify it and he will rightfully get a ban for it, there's no place for those tackles in the modern game. Have to say the referee was spot on, he couldn't have given anything from where he was, his linesman however saw it all and didn't help him out one bit.
It's taken this long for the most self-opinionated man in football to annoy you? He's just scared of losing a striker for a relegation run-in, or could it be that he is harking back to the "good old days" when he played when that tackle would have been seen 10 times a game. Living in the North West it was a weekly treat as to which mouthy "opinion on everything" gobster (know that is not a word but unsure if can put the 5 letter word after gob on here without getting told off) would come out with the most outrageous comment - him or our favourite gobster of the moment Holloway.
Looking at AKCJ's thing (thanks for that by the way), the Wigan lad's not even looking at the bloody ball :S. I agree with your last sentence though sir; linesman was VERY weak. Ahhh, he's on SSN now as well speaking live backing up his opinion, so he's rising to 2nd most annoying prat of the season, obviously behind Holloway. Good luck, would be great to have a Championship team in the FA Cup Final, proving how good our league is.

Exactly. I dont think it was malicious he missed the ball. Just one of those rare occurrences, anyone who has played the game will have seen a challenge like that up close, split second out.
Everybody's basing their opinion on seeing this tackle from 25 different camera angles in super slow motion after a dozen times watching it. If you actually saw the game live or on MOTD it looked nothing like a dangerous tackle and McManaman had every right to go for that ball. If he'd have pulled out of it he would have been accused of shirking it and taken some flack from fans. Pardew and his coaching staff only started moaning about it when they'd seen replays anyway. It happens in football, and I've seen far worse tackles than that before where players simply have no intention to even touch the ball.
First time I've seen that been busy, pretty gruesome- tackles like that they need to up the bans for it, our lad ***an got crippled by Guthrie (Newcastle) a few years back, no justice done as his career was downhill after that and the other lad gets banned for a few games? Not right.
Anyone who has been watching any football for more than 10 or 15 years, before the tackle was banned from football, will also tell you that. ****ing poncey fans these days moaning about tackles all the time. It's a contact sport ffs.
That Keane one, was that the one on the former Leeds ****er who did the same thing to him earlier that season and laughed in Keane's face as he lay in agony? Think he deserved it really. I just don't understand why he was applying such an enormous downward force, even if it was aimed at the ball. Anyone with a basic understanding gained from playing football can see that you wouldn't gain anything by studding the ball downwards that hard. The force wouldn't even transfer into the ball that well. There was no need whatsoever for him to stamp down like that. As for the linesman I think they get a lot of unfair stick, if he was watching the tackle and missed an offside everyone would be annoyed at him. It wasn't about the timing it's the totally disproportionate force he applies downwards. What was that ever going to achieve? See above. All he had to was try to flick the ball away. Kicking in that way was incredibly dangerous and in terms of playing the ball, totally pointless. How can you can call that a tackle in another post I do not know.
The point is he was watching the tackle, he was staring straight at it, therefore he has to give the decision.
