Helmut's Hunger Games 2013: who will be "blown apart"?

Discussion in 'Formula 1' started by Max Whiplash, Mar 18, 2013.

?

Who will survive the battle to be Vettel's number 2?

  1. Ricciardo will "blow Vergne apart"

  2. Vergne will slaughter Ricciardo

  3. There will be no decisive victor

  4. Meh, it's all a fuss about nothing - give peace a chance.

I follow (and generally agree with) your logic there, Max.

I've said it before but I really do not like the way Red Bull treat their younger drivers, it would not surprise me if both Ricciardo and Vergne got the sack at the end of the year and replaced them with Da Costa and another youngster. Dietrich Mateschitz has also indicated not long ago that when Webber does decide to depart his replacement is not necessarily going to be someone who has been promoted from their young driver programme saying that RBR's purse is big enough that they could go after a quality driver already on a contract (The likes of Alonso/Hamilton). Although there are issues there over having two big guns in the same team.

Really? Webber has had the best car for 3 seasons and finished no higher than 3rd, has ignored team-orders and falsly accused the team of favoritism, out of Mark v Marko only one has put his personal goals ahead of his teams, and it ain't Helmut.

As for the way RBR treat their young drivers, at the end of the day RBR has backed these drivers with countless millions, if they can't react well to pressure what use are they in such a highly pressurised sport? RBR don;t want another Webber, who cracks under pressure almost everytime.

To be fairly honest, I think Webber is used as a pawn for Vettel.

People just can't see to accept the fact that Vettel is far better than Webber. The only reason people believe that RBR screw over Webber is because Webber constantly tells or alludes that that is the case.

I wasn't thinking of Webber in particular as a target of Marko's animosity. As for the young drivers, I don't believe Marko's system favours their development. As for the countless millions, I don't think they're directed particularly at the young drivers, more at Marko's system itself. Nevertheless, it's an opportunity few would want to pass up, unless it comes to be seen as more likely the kiss of death to a nascent F1 career rather than a genuine chance of success.

New season, same Miggins. It's gone from hilarious to chuckle-worthy to kind of sad now. You don't need to continue pressing the same old point about Webber to us, we're all very much aware of your undying love for him.

I think Ricciardo's a very good driver, the better of the two, but I think Vergne's more likely to produce the eye catching performances because he's good in the wet. I don't think either will progress to the senior team, the weaker driver will be replaced by da Costa at the end of the season and da Costa will eventually take over from Webber. If Vettel left I could see da Costa and Ricciardo being a very strong line up.

There's a guy on the Autosport forum who thinks Webber's better than Vettel but always gets bad luck when he's in form meaning Vettel always has the momentum. <doh>

If it helps, what I do is right-click on the image, press 'Copy image', go into a new post and switch the editor to WYSIWYG Mode. Then right-click in the post and press 'Paste' <ok>

Thanks. Not sure what the equivalent of that is in Mac but I'll experiment.

    What's WYSIWYG?!

Not going to plan for Ricciardo. The wet qualifyings have been right up JEV's street in the last two races and he's done well in the dry to build on his strong grid positions. He's currently outscoring Ricciardo 13-7 this season (29-17 to JEV including last season). I don't think either are quite ready for the senior team yet but if Webber retires Vergne looks more likely to take over.
