Once again SAFC have got us fans (well me and a couple of others) at each others throats and tearing strips off one another instead of the team.

I remain a MoN fan, despite the failings currently but recognise now there are those that are firmly against him. Fair enough we are allowed to disagree on that point. I argued with several about wanting rid of Bruce 2 years ago and against those defending him. **** happens. I am just not going to react or post on anti O'Neill post from here on in and ask that those same people refrain from commenting on mine, ensuring that the in-fighting ends now. I can’t be arsed anymore to be honest?

I think the current state of the club is resulting in fans squabbling amongst each other again and I witnessed the Gestapo stewards arguing with a few fans in the NE stand yesterday and threatening to throw them out if they didn’t stop shouting abuse at the team? You'd think we should be apologising to the fans not telling them off?

Bruce certainly has to take a large share of the **** here for bringing us so much averageness to the squad in his time but I also accept that Martin has to shoulder a fair percentage of the blame too for not addressing that situation better, or making better use of what he has available. I agree that his decisions have been baffling at times and poor in others. Although Fletcher has been a top signing and Rose a great loan deal, the likes of Graham, Johnson (what the **** has happened to him), N'Diaye, Mangane (why did we sign this bloke) and the non signings of Saha and McFadden. I thought and still believe that Cuellar is a solid player (my SAFC MotM until he went off) but agreed no world beater. We have not moved on significantly at all.

I think MoN has the right thinking to get rid of the average players and replace them but has maybe culled to quickly and left us short for the fight to come. I don’t know. Maybe we will survive by the skins of our teeth or maybe just as likely we won’t but one thing is for sure, whether he stays or goes, there is part of what made the last 39 years palatable to me gone now forever.

I don’t know whether I can even bring myself to attend again this season and have already touted my season card to friends and family for the remainder of the campaign. My renewal slip has been returned and dd cancelled for next season after the QPR game last week. I have just reached an impasse this season and after 39 years I'm sick of finding myself back at this point again of a crappy relegation fight. We have endured 6 miserable bitty seasons in the top flight where we have hardly pulled up any trees and once again find ourselves at the wrong end of the league and desperately looking for others to slip up to help us out. Trouble is they are all picking up points. Zero wins in 7 games is shocking at this level and even Reading have managed better and they sacked their manager last week?

Stay up; relegated again; O'Neill in; O'Neill out or whatever, I'm finished arguing amongst fellow fans and getting worked up over a football club that will simply never amount to anything other than also ran’s or whipping boys at this level and the prospect of winning lots of games in the Championship just doesn’t cut the mustard for me.

I'm done. It’s happened to better men than me although I never thought it would. I just don’t have the stomach, the fight or the inclination to give the club my undying support any longer. I'll always remain a Sunderland fan and always want the best for it but maybe a few months or years always from being so close to it will rekindle my fire again, or I may just become like my old man did before me, so disillusioned I will stay away for good.

Right now I just don’t care enough either way to be fired up.

    Fair assessment, Cest.

Like you, I am a bit older than some on here (50 now) and have been supporting the lads since about 1970. At least the experience has hardened the old resolve enough so that I will keep supporting them, no matter how crap we are.

What I would say to the younger posters is that really turning the club around, and I mean REALLY turning it around (not a Peter Reid-like halcyon few years) will take a great deal of time, money and hard work. It will also take Ellis a lot of resolve to stick with it, which I sincerely hope he has.

MON has the skills to right the good ship SAFC and if it takes 5 years, then so be it. But if we stick with him, and Ellis has a proper long-term plan, then we have everything in place to become a force in the EPL. Whether we will or not remains to be seen, but I want to see long-term planning now, not the short-termism that has buggered us and 90% of the other clubs in the League in the past.

Kidda I was out of order too and this club just kills you sometimes.

I think this is the worst few weeks of my entire 39 years following the club and I just want away from it. How long that may be is not decided but I just dont want to go back to see O'Neill abused and vilified as a genuine bloke and fan of this club, he will be huirting as much as us right now and its so typical that his only failure as a manager in the game will be us.

He has been a major success at every other club he has managed except us and its that realisation that has hit home for me.

We are never going to be anything at this level if we cant do it with a man like Martin at the helm. I just want no more of it and certainly not the fighting I have been part of the past few days.

    Sorry mate.

Sorry Sid, but to myself (no offence intended) but that was a very condecending (sp) post...

Peter Reid, gave the fans, young and old, something that MoN will never do, hope and joy, and most of all entertainment, wingers, and a duo up front...

Reid had his faults, but MoN is living in the dark ages, and to compare the duo, in terms of entertainment for the paying public, is a no go-er..

I also blame ES for not insisting that MoN brings in an assistant to help him.

C'est I know its hard and this will come across as condescending when you invest so much emotion, time, money and effort to follow S'land. But try to remember what being a fan is actually all about. And that really has very little to do with what is being served up by the team. It's the community, the sense of belonging, the cameraderie, the piss taking, the hope not expectation...

Some bloke from Sacriston put it better than me-

'What is a club in any case?

Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.'

How can you still blame Bruce for this team? Half of the team on Saturday consisted of MON's signings, the other half MON decided were good enough to keep and play. With our best 2 players mig & sess being Bruce's signings. I don't want to argue, but what you are saying doesn't make sense.

As for not renewing your season ticket... I think you are the biggest MON fan I've heard speak, and even you don't want to watch his dismal style of football next year, I think that proves how much of a let down MON has really been.

At the moment, I think we are the 2nd worse team in the league, with reading being the first.

As for Adam Johnson.. I'm glad you've finally admitted that the guy is useless, slowly but surely your seeing sense with the manager and his players.

No condescension intended, mate. So apologies if that was what came across. I did not intend to knock what Reidy achieved and, like you, had the best time of my life supporting SAFC during his tenure.

My point was that it was, in the event, temporary. We could have built on a couple of 7th places, but once again stumbled towards relegation and two of the worst seasons in EPL history. If we want to build a platform for stability we HAVE to have a few years of consistency, or we'll just end up back at square one for the umpteenth time.

I find that prospect worse than a couple of years of dull rebuilding.

Very surprised by this Cest. You are the last person who I thought would chuck it in. You are not alone though. My mate and his dad have cancelled their renewals. I think you will miss it though.

Nah but seriously guys good luck.

Said before that I have a bit of a soft spot for Sunderland as one of your legends managed our club between 1986 and 1988. Ian Porterfield, RIP. Really nice guy and did a sterling job for us after Ferguson left. Also saw David Bowie at Roker Park in 1987.
