Us over 50's have a darn good excuse. We find it hard to remember what we done 10 minutes ago, let alone a day ago
Oh, here's another joker! We didn't pay our way? Seeing that I paid National Insurance stamps for 45 years, I think that I certainly paid my way!!! I think it's time you learnt some respect!!!1
I dunno, I'm 25 and it ****s me off when older generations say "oh, you have it easy nowadays". Do we ****. Most of the people I went to uni with never found work in their respective fields and had to take menial jobs and live at home. My Dad graduated and went straight into work. Everything is far more expensive, buying a house now requires more for deposits but you cant save any money because your salary only just covers your outgoings. How the hell is it easier now!?
Really, you're the ones who should have respect for us, as you've left us in a right old mess that'll take a full generation to clear up. What do you want us to say? "Thanks for the recession and lack of opportunity guys!"? I'm not into the business of respecting people because they're old, because at the end of the day its just nature isn't it?
The simple fact you and your friends went to uni is a great privilege that many people don't get ! "Menial jobs" Really gets me because people think they went to uni that some "Menial jobs" are beneath them, Yes we have all heard the story in my day you could go out all night drink ten pints have a meal pay the rent and still have change
The difference is we had to pay for that privilege and that's the reason not everyone get's to go these days. I don't however agree with the bollocks about not being able to get a job in the field, everyone I know who did a degree as a career move and not a doss have successfully found work in their field (science, medicine, teaching...etc), me included.
Actually I have respect for younger people, as I spent my working life teaching in Hull, mostly in poorer areas, encouraging them to improve their lives through education. I find it laughable that you blame the recession on my generation. I didn't know that we all had our money in off-shore accounts or were city bankers.
I'm sorry that you don't respect old people, but one day you will be old yourself and if you are still on this forum you might have some young whippersnapper blaming you for the state of the nation. Best of luck!!! By the way do you respect your grandparents?
As long as the banks are Cyprus U.K. I think you'll be O.K!!! It seems that Gideon has promised to re-imburse the government employees and the Armed forces there, so they should be safe. Wonder if Royal Bank of Scotland has branches there? But, of course, silly me. it's all the fault of the older generation.
Well I have a Masters degree, so I consider working in a supermarket a menial job to me because I didn't spend 5 years and nearly £50,000 in fees and loans to end up stacking shelves or showing people where the biscuits are. I understand that people have to make ends meet but as somebody else pointed out, if you strive and work hard you can find a job in your field. A lot of my friends (myself included) did Media Studies or Journalism so they ended up a bit stuck. But some of them are full on Journo's now. Going to uni doesn't entitle to you to a better job, but it shows you have the nous to go further and yet some people look upon students with disdain. Those people are ****ing tools because it's the people that went to university that heal you when you are sick, represent you in a court of law, help you buy a house, design the products we buy in shops and many other things. You're welcome.
Of course I did. Never once did they demand respect like you're doing, they just got on with life and bloody well earnt it. Values I now have, if in 50 years time I'm crowing on about youngsters needing more respect I'll know I haven't done enough to earn it. Respect by default is the worst kind. P.S. Please stay to one side of the pavement, when you walk slowly in the middle it's a nightmare getting round you.
Congrats on the Masters degree not an easy thing to achieve. The fee's you wont be paying till you earn a certain amount ?I myself spent 3 years, a year on each course gaining skills in IT ! like some of your friends work didn't come easy ! and this was at a great cost to my family as i had to work what you call "Menial jobs" to pay the rent and feed my family and if it ever comes again were i can't work in IT then i would do them jobs again. And feel i am not above any job !
Should have added before i was an IT technician/engineer whatever you wanna call it ! I use to be a water treatment engineer before the the market went tits up ! And blame the teenagers for this mess
I have always read your posts and always given you the benefit of the doubt in regard to your views, but now I realise why you appear to be rather unpopular on this site. I certainly do not demand respect from anybody, but when older people are verbally attacked, looked down upon and treated like 2nd class citizens then I will defend my generation. As you are only 22, I will forgive you for your attitude. You have a lot to learn, sunshine. I will not make any further comments, as I am now going to watch Eastenders, like all good pensioners, then watch Broadchurch and finally as I don't have to get up for work I will go to bed and continue reading Anna Karenina on my kindle!!!!! Good night and God bless!!!
It's just occurred to me, that I don't actually know if any of the fifteen people who currently work for me went to University. I assume my accounts bloke did, but I took him on because he was doing exactly the same job at Croda before he came to me and all the others I just took on because they knew how to do the things I needed them to do, rather than because they had a degree in anything. I'm probably not your average employer though.
