I'm not sure that RickieRickie was making that distinction. Saying 'you were dominated by the better side' still implies the same thing to the majority of people. Unless you add something banal like 'on the day' I don't think many people are going to distinguish between the two. It was inflammatory and it was meant to be. As was Daves comments about being a Championship level club when you're clearly above that.

  3. Listening to TalkSport earlier and a caller was talking about us playing a weakened team at certain times. We went out of the League Cup to Swansea with a weakened side, same against Oldham in the FA Cup and again against Zenit (first leg) in Europa League. You could argue that today's team was weakened in that BR dropped (forced to or not) Reina, Carragher, Henderson and Lucas. I think this shows a distinct lack of depth in key areas <ok>

To clarify I think they were both acting like arseholes. However I would still argue that almost always when referring to a match when you say 'the better side' you are alluding to the superior side in that match rather than who is the better side overall. Frequently used when an underdog deservedly beats a better side, but never actually meant to suggest that said underdog is actually of higher quality. But that is mostly inconsequential, as it mostly boils down to playground 'who started it' regardless.

Quite frankly I couldn't give a **** what you think. I meant wgat I said about Southampton being a very good Championship side because with that side you won't remain in the premiership for too long. We'll just have to wait and see. So Goodnight aresehole!

Anyone who refers to Saints (or any other side in the Premier) as a 'championship side' or 'shouldn't even be in this league' is quite simply up their own arse and disrespectful of the other teams in the division. Even Reading and QPR deserve to be in this league because they qualified to be in this league and none of us can be referred to as a championship side because quite simply they are playing in the Premier League.

Writing disrespectful comments like that is bound to get a response and thats a shame because most of the pool fans on here have been quite honest and respectful in a 'hands up' way. Most Saints fans are just as honest and respectful in that yes we were the better side today but we know Liverpool are the better side on paper, in league standing and we would fully expect them to beat us most times. However give credit where it is due.

We play football the right way. We were promoted to this league on merit. We will probably still be in this league next season on merit and if that is the case then you cannot say we are a championship side when we would've clearly proved that we are a Premier side by remaining in the Premier league with that side.

Argue all you like about Rodgers but he did his homework and like I suggested yesterday decided to bypass our midfield by going over it. Problem was our manager did his homework too and decided to get on top of Gerrard from the off and push your wingbacks back. Our manager won that battle and a good job too because if we hadn't then you would have won WITH the tactics that Rodgers started with.

Just a bit of respect lads. We beat a top side, we respect that you are a top side but don't call us a championship side as we are quite clearly shown in the Premier League Table.

Thjis is complete and utter bollox!

My opinion of the quality of the Southampton side has absolutely nothing to do with what transpired today. You will find posts in which I have already said that you deserved your win. I am however fully entitled to my opinion that I find the quality of your team to be that of a very good Championship side. If expressing that opinion upsets Southampton supporters so be it.

Now as far as I am concerned I am expressing that opinion on a thread on the Liverpool board. I have not visited the Southampton board to just WUM them. Therefore this is not a question of respect. Under that guise should all criticism be suborned? You may not agree with my opinion but nobody (Redman or Southampton supporter) has the right to condemn me for expressing it.

you said we are a championship side not that we only have the qualitites oif a championship side. pedantics but you are saying we ARE a championship side which is obviously incorrect. Difference between giving an opinion and stating something as if it were a fact.

Anyway, I'll go and celebrate on my own board. I'm not here to argue and I'm glad that our championship players are here to stay and not going anywhere :)

    This <ok>

We lost guys. We got outplayed all over the field and we couldn't cope with their system or their dangerous players. We tried signing Gaston Ramirez ourselves but he turned us down for Saints, certainly not the sign of a 'very good Championship side'.

Your team played excellently today and deserved the victory 100%. It was wrong to sack Adkins but that isn't the fault of the fans or Pochetinno (who I really quite like). I was really impressed today by Southampton.

To be honest guys, there are arsehole fans with every team and some of those will come to an opposition board to unnecessarily gloat. We have plenty of them, but really Mikey is NOT one of those - he's one of our most erudite and sensible posters. Of course calling Saints a 'championship side' is a somewhat inflammatory thing to say and would suggest that you've not seen much of Saints this season, particularly since Pochettino came on board.

However, you are of course entitled to that opinion and it's a Liverpool board, so the people coming on here expecting you to be blowing smoke up Saints arses rather than discussing the perceived shortcomings of Pool today are probably coming to the wrong place!

Good luck for the season and onwards - for what it's worth I'm a big fan of Rogers playing philosophy so very much hope it works out for you.

Its a shame that you feel this way as your team were second in every way to the Saints team today, you may blame the manager, but your team lost very easily to a championship team as you put it. If this were true then if I was a Pool fan then I would be very alarmed at the poor squad of players that the manager has at his disposal. Personally if I could take any amount of Liverpool players and sign them for Southampton, then I would take just Saurez,Lucas (altough our midfield 2 are brilliant we have no cover) and Agger (not because Agger has fantasic this season, but because he does have more class than the CBs we have which is our main weakness),I dont think any other players that played today would get into the Southampton team, whereas teams that you think you are equal to like Man U, Man city and even Everton then I would take 8 or so players from each of those team who I think would improve Saints. Southampton had a bad start to the season, but you will see next year we actually have a very good Premiership team.

and the factual evaluation of your side is that you are a million ****ing miles from winning the premier league and despite the tens of millions you have spent on players, you still can't even get into the top four.

you are a deluded idiot and i'd wager that we will win the league before you do. ****ing plank.

Gotta say most Saints fans seem sound but I guess there are exceptions to every rule eh.
