Mikra, I'm really sorry that someone has been that way to you. My advice would be to ignore them. I know what type of fan I am and I know how many games I go to and I have no problem at all with anyone like yourself that lives overseas and supports the Swans. From what I've read just about everyone in Denmark follows the Swans and its getting like that in South Korea too.

I'd have a read what others are saying on this thread too. QPR999 has just about summed things up perfectly so you see every club had them.

I would class you as being a new supporter and as far as I'm concerned you are more than welcome to join our little band of merry men. I don't care what nationality, religion or skin colour anyone is, if you want to follow the Swans that is fine by me and I'm pretty sure that all the reasonable Jacks on here would say the same.

Now in future if anyone on here tells you to do one I suggest you PM one of the mods. If I see any nonsense like that directed at you then ill take it up with that poster. I hope you decide to stay on here

@ Dilligaf, I'm an adult person. I do what I want and no frustrated, unsure-of-themseleves boys on a website are going to make me change my ways. I make my own decisions, but thank you for the support.
The tone here is nicer than on planet swans - where, as you've seen posted, the same thing. Here people are arguing more between themselves. I don't understand that either...

BTW - what is the reason for having 2 fora: 606 and planet swans: ain't that many Jacks, and people are posting more or less the same things???

Sigh, no I don't. Does that make be a bad person? I guess so by the looks of the posts.

Honestly what I object to is the discourse that there's a virtue in supporting only one team for life. That you are better than others for doing so. It's just a game folks. You can support whoever you want, whenever you want. Doesn't make you a better person whichever way you go.

I can't be a fan of Chile if I find them attractive during a world cup and a fan of a different team if Chile doesn't qualify or plays poorly during the next World Cup? I fail to see why that's not being a fan. There's a difference being a fan and a fan for life.

Calling people "glory hunters" is demeaning and I see no reason to spit on people with a different way to watch football.

The real question is how do you perceive yourself Spacy ?

Terms like Glory hunter and plastic fans have been around a very long time so I wouldn't take it personally. A fan I define as someone who supports their team regardless of their league position, you've stated you wouldn't follow the Swans if we got relegated so as I've said the only thing that matters is how do you see yourself ?

You appear to have the problem , we all watch tournaments and the like and will back a side for a no reason other than a player in the side plays for your club or his nationality or for any other minuscule reason , that is a lot different from being a supporter/fan but thats how I see it and I've been wrong before .

I guess so. You can define the word 'fan' in different ways and I'll have it either way. What I object to is calling people terms that clearly is not meant as a compliment because you happen to chose to support a team for life. That is putting yourself on the moral high ground for no apparent reason (is there something moral right in watching a sport in a certain way?). And I dislike that.

Having a problem for defining a word differently is pretty strong. As I wrote to Dilli, it's fine if people don't consider me a fan even though I watch all of Swanseas games and read up on the Swans every day. But I won't be objected to be calling a 'glory hunter'. Which is quite ironic anyway since I started watching the Swans when everybody predicted relegation.

Spacy, do you want Swansea to win every time you watch them? If so, then in my eyes that makes you a fan. As some have said, if the fan base doesn't grow, then when the so called 'real' fans die there won't be anybody left to support the club. The more fans we have, the more money spend on merchandise, etc which means the clubs profit margins increase leading to better players coming into the club.

A Fan is short for fanatic and i class myself as a fan who through good and bad times have supported the swans since 1963. My mate is a casual fan that only goes to big games, then there are the fans who only go when the team is doing good...It is those and i will call them fans are not as fanatical as me but its their choice, i wish they would support the team when we are not so good but they dont and its is where the term glory hunters comes from. the term plastic is a person who cant be bothered to support his local team but wear the shirt of the big teams and call themselves fans but never go or rarely go to see them live anyway....these are the plastic supporters not someone who supports their local team from a long way away.....

    Valley, thanks for the sentiment.

Dai that's all cool. But what I'm getting at is that we should delete the terms: "plastic" and "glory hunter" from our vocabulary even though they might seem harmless to some. They clearly are meant for dividing people into two categories where one is frowned upon. I could for one care less if someone supports Chelsea one day and Barca the next. It doesn't make him any less of a person in my eyes. It might be just be an overreaction form my part. But hey I'm a sensitive guy <ok>

I'm sorry, you leave me confused: You are then by all means a hard-core Swan? But then what about us newbies. I can't go to the Liberty every saturday (for logistical reasons), and I even support another (my local) club for 25+ years. Am I unfaithfull, just facinated or can I support 2 clubs? 3 actually, counting the Danish national team too.
