From what I saw, Lambo had an excellent game not only with his feet and head, but with his mouth, as I said on another thread he was doing a Captains job even though he didn't have the arm band, watch the replays if you don't think I am right, my only criticism is that he stopped a couple of time when he should have been playing to the whistle, and opportunity was lost. He is definitely playing a different role compared to his Championship performances.

Just my opinion. I watched the game on a stream so I have a pretty good idea of how things went, I'm not just guessing. By your logic you could never have an opinion on any player who you hadn't seen play live.

Maybe I'm wrong, perfectly happy to admit that, but no-one's presented any particularly strong evidence to that effect, and just being at the game doesn't make one automatically correct.

Hodgson has gone just like every other England manager. More interested in listening to the media than using the evidence of his own eyes.

I bet that if a couple of Tabloid football reporters started a campaign for Lambert to be picked... he would be picked.

He did get the nod from all the MOTD pundits as to his England credentials last night, good to see its not just biased saints fans who see his value.

I hasten to add that was based on the season as a whole not yesterday's game ;)

I want to see Rickie rewarded for being the great player and man that he is. But also part of me knows that the England set-up is often poison to players heads & do any actually improve as players either?

With caps thrown around like confetti, the "achievement" of an England call up isn't what it used to be.

First and foremost, I want Rickie to continue doing for Saints what he's always done for us. England & international football is IMHO a dying part of the sport.

I agree with you, the fact Shelvey has an England cap tells you all you need to know about it's current value. However, it seems to mean a lot to Rickie, so if pulling on that shirt makes him happy, then I want it for him too.

It annoys me greatly that Lambert was not called up, but yet Welbeck is.. (yes, he was impressive against Real Madrid).

Welbeck's 22 and has a big future in the game. He's already had some excellent games in an England shirt, and is a regular in a Man United side who have run away with the league this season. Sure he's not scored that many goals but clearly he does a lot of work which justifies his place. Surely even the most blinkered saints fan can see the value in getting him into the squad before Lambert?

I always see people moaning about Welbeck being ****, but every time I watch him play he does well, both for United and England. I really don't see the problem.

Don't get your hopes up, you could have won 8-0 and the Liverpool English contingent would be light-years ahead of any Southampton player in terms of likelihood of being sleected. Even if Lambert scored a double hat-trick and Lallana got 8 assists. #blinkeredEnglandmanagers #bigclubbias

He would have been impressed by Clyne and Shaw, but they have already been called up for the U21s. Shaw may make it into the senior squad soon though...no hiding his light under a bushel. Rickie will only get called up in an emergency...he isn't quite at his best but fits perfectly into the Saints team style...but would it work if parachuted into the England team.

Hence why England will never win anything with both players like that and fans who accept woeful underachievers as being good.

Dion Dublin is actually quite a fan. He reined it in on MOTD1, but a couple of weeks ago on MOTD2 he was more effusive in his comments about Rickie.

I don't see why not. England have generally tried to use a target man, and Lambert does that job as well as anyone. Perhaps Hodgson is less keen on playing that way, but he did take Carroll to the Euros and I'm sure he'll realise the importance of having a plan B.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Lambert at the world cup if he has another season like this one.
