Apparently Robbie Elliot had a good one in Russia today. Even saved a long shot from Eto'o! Maybe he has got his contact lense prescription sorted out at last. Also made a brilliant close range save but he can do those all day, no trouble.
Fair play to him, mad a few decent saves. Was never really put under pressure, but made a good save late on. Got to be happy with a clean sheet away in Russia.
To be fair, the Luzhniki stadium is closer to Newcastle than it is to Makhachkala Good to see he's doing well
So Button was good at Huddersfield error ridden in his other 3 games ...I still think Hamer the better keeper
Elliott would have saved the first one but maybe let in the long-range free-kick. Hamer probably the opposite. Button let them both in. Time for the Pope to have a go but he will need a couple of weeks to kick ass in the Vatican first.
Pope seems to have a lot of clean sheets, and whenever I've seen him he has an easy game. I think this may be partly due to him being a very effective defense organiser. I wonder how our experienced players would take to having a rookie goalie constantly barking orders at them?
A few CUFC comments "Francis 1, if we can keep next year, would be a solid base to build on. There is some speculation he may stay as he started a bit late and needs games." "Let me say the Pope save 94th minute from an edge of area free kick wasnt just great it was one of the best saves ive seen in many years no kidding." "the suggestion that Pope's loan is with an eye to having him next year can only be a good thing if performances like today are anything to go on." "Pope commanded his area but definitly needs to work on his kicking." Plenty more in the same vein. Signs are good.
So Glad Hamer is back, rather use him and sell Button in the summer, would have been a waste of time and money on both sides but I feel so much safer and more confident with Hamer
Honestly don't think there is that much between them. With Pope coming through we may have to take a decision to maximise potential but Button appears to have made the same mistakes that Hamer has. That said, on Saturday Hamer appears to have rediscovered the art of quick distribution and a couple of hs throw outs were precise and to the point.
