Points mean position . At the end of the season , lets see how many points he would lose for the club , by selecting the wrong team for the match . Being 5th or sixth is alot of difference .
Oh i thought it was because southampton was the better team on the day.....you dont have the divine right to win every game...nobody does.....the saints were superb today...fair play...
They played well, courtesy of us being terrible in the 1st half, and that was down to BR's selection. Allen should never have started the game, especially in a 4-2-4 formation. We were completely over run in midfield, and that's what cost us the match.
Agree with pretty much all of this, but would say that the starting formation was worse than the decision to play Allen. Having Henderson in the middle as well would have helped us get hold of the midfield. Will be interested in seeing who starts and if we still go 4-2-4 in the next match. For me we have much better control with the extra body in the middle even if it means sacrificing some of the threat up front.
Haven't seen the game but certainly having Allen starting the match was always going to be a mistake against that type of opposition given his injury.
What about Skrtel? Real bad? Bit of egg on his face coming out and stating he doesn't know why he has been dropped...... uh because you have been crap lately mate.
Not sure I'm not best person to answer this for you He was awful IMO, Agger wasn't much better but Johnson was our worst defender today
I think Skrtel has always been a liability defender for us. Think the D could use an overhaul, just to ( if anything else) freshen it up and maybe give us some competition back there as well. Can't be so easy it picks itself all the time.
I completely agree that the defence needs an overhaul, well, CB does. Carragher is retiring, Coates isn't good enough, Skrtel is a liability and I don't think Agger is consistent enough. Can't change it all at once though so, unless Skrtel / Agger want to leave, let's start with Carragher and Coates this summer. Got Reina to deal with too
Think Agger might be okay with a competent leader or someone more composed back there. He's much more comfortable alongside Carragher or next to Kjaer for Denmark.
True, he is definitely our best CB currently and as I said above, we can't go changing all of them in one window anyway, that would be crazy. However, he is 28 years old and therefore should be the one to take that leader role that Carragher is leaving behind but I can't see it.
Doesn't mean you can't like me be upset & angry at his naivety today. Just as usual, step back. And avoid either extreme. Not he's the greatest Not Rodgers out. Unless you started from either point beforehand of course
The thing that worries me the most is the lack of consistency over several seasons. It comes as no surprise that we lost this game given that we had won the previous three. How many times in the last 4 or 5 seasons have we lost games like this or like the WBA game, or the villa game etc etc... Although rogers may have got it wrong today the responsibility still lays with the players. They are paid enormous amounts of money to go out and perform regardless of systems but over recent years they have consistently underperformed at times. Do you think it is something inherent in the club. Is this what we have become now regardless of manager, players and system? Rogers isn't the first to manage an under performing Liverpool team .
Perhaps it's the players that are inconsistent rather than the setup. For the inconsistency to happen over three or four years spreading over three or four managers suggest it is the players to me. Hell, we were even inconsistent under Rafa in the season we finished second having only lost twice, we drew how many?
With this defence in this form and with zero confidence Benteke is going to rip us a new arsehole. I have never felt as certain of a result as I do about Villa beating us in a game very much like today. Its ****ing obvious, just as today was obvious to millions of Reds as soon as they saw the team sheet. How are you meant to compete in this league when you only have 2 in MF? Especially when one is injured and hideously off form and the other an old boy whose so full of his own importance thinks he doesn't ever have to track back, especially when its him who gives the ball needlessly away, which means the oppo get a free run at Agger and Skrtel, who are both completely and utterly dogshit this season, and this results in conceding goals? 1st goal. Schneiderlin ghosts pasts Gerrard with a simple CM run from deep which Stevie makes no attempt to placate, so Schneiderlin is completely unmarked to tap in. 3rd goal. See 1st goal. Gerrard gives ball away cheaply. Makes no attempt to regain posession or get back. Saints have a clean run at defence and score any easy goal (which tbf Skrtel wasn't a donkey he'd of put a foot in instaed of just standing off....and standing off....and standing off....GOAL!!! Gerrard also nearly cost us another goal directly when he trained one of his ****ing overly complicated hollywood balls straight to a Saints player. makes no attempt to recover it or get back again. Rodriguez gets in and gets the shot off which, lucky for Gerrard (although I don't think he gives a **** anymore tbh), went just wide of the post. That was one of the most embarrassing Liverpool performaces I have ever seen, particularly in defence. It was Hodgson-esque in its utter inept ****tery. Every single away fan who made that **** off trip should be compensated for their ticket and cost of travel. Unacceptable from the Manager and most of the team, butmainly Rodger's who lost us that game before it had even kicked off with ridiculous lineup and formation given who and where we were playing. How he thinks Suarez can function as a Gylfi Sigurdsson type no. 10 attacking midfield who breaks from midfield to attack like Gerrard used to do with Torres, and not negitively impact the midfield battle, surrendering control of it, is beyond me. Even we can see this yet BR is ****ing blind to it. Shocking.
I'm starting to believe the whole team has to be nearly overhauled and anyone still here from the Rafa days and been here through the ****ness of the last 3 seasons and all that brought needs to be bombed out. They just don't have what it takes and the fact were on our 4th Manager in 3 years yet nothings changed shows this. The only ones I'd keep is Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Hendo and maybe Lucas. The rest, including Gerrard can go. A whole new team independent from our fall from grace since 2010 needs assembling. The only thing is I don't trust BRs ability or judgement to build said new team that would get us anywhere near the CL.
