Thanks RSS. In the end I stole myself to go and look at the BBC Football website. Never happened before like that. Almost like The Likely Lads. Our favourite scoreline too. Superb. Villa won too, and that's not a bad result for us as it keeps the relegation 3 firmly 7 points away. A good day. All we need is for Wigan and Reading to lose their matches this weekend and it's a great day.
Only 3 points off of tenth. We can really push up the table in the next month or two. Thats got to be the target now.
Pretty much what I said IMO Lucas is the most important player in our team. We played a 442/424 system with two attacking FBs. Allen playing ahead of Lucas meant we left Agger and Skrtel to deal with your attackers. So yes, it was just one position but it makes a massive difference to our team. But as I said, well played Southampton, you deserved the points. Looks like you will be staying up now too
Everyone said that after Man City, too. Let's not get ahead of ourselves setting needless targets. Win today was nice, as it lets us just concentrate on our results. We should try to win every game of course, as all of them are winnable but one game at a time and we'll end up where we end up.
I do agree with that. Your CBs needed some help as they were struggling to deal with Lambert and Rodriguez, and as a result Lallana was getting a lot of freedom to move into channels. Clearly the aim was to catch our high back line out with direct balls to Suarez and Sturridge, but there probably should have been more focus on winning the ball in the middle. We'll happily play a high line if we're keeping the ball, and you let us do that.
Our defence looked lost at times even when Lucas was on the pitch, I think we massively missed Carragher's leadership at the back. But then, I'm biased as I just don't rate Skrtel. Glen Johnson had a shocker today too.
I don't think it is getting ahead of ourselves. I think it is a realistic target, if the players were to get the mentality of job done we could come unstuck. We are closer to 10th than we are 18th now so lets be positive. I don't think we are world beaters or anything like that and don't need to be pulled off the ceiling but if we can continue in this vein then it is achievable.
Luke Shaw on Twitter: "What a great game and a very important win for us! We need to carry on these performances now till the end of the season ! #saintsfc"
Someone said on the Liverpool board the other day that we could get fourth (I didn't agree) considering a lot of people are saying QPR could escape relegation and the points difference for them to 17th and us to 4th was the same. However, I think there is a big difference. Seven points between 19th and 17th is much closer gap than seven points between 7th and 4th. The higher up the table you go the more points team pick in regularity. Obviously this isn't the situation for you guys but I'm sure you get my point.
I wonder if Cortese has had a word with Poch and team after the fine they picked up against Norwich. Not a single card today!
Garth Crooks on Final Score: It's not that Southampton were scintilating. It was that Liverpool's defence was poor.......no-one in his team of the week then...doh
Thanks our kid, early days yet re relegation, your fans were brilliant as ever and I support the protest too, our gripe will be seeing the usual headlines that Liverpool played badly rather than us playing well, but we are used to that!
I think some people get a bit frustrated with us not exactly being media darlings and can over-play/invent pundits' bias against etc., but that is quite simply a piss-take.
