I've lost my appetite for football too Fran! Just seen my Nan's house, completely burgled and smashed up. Valuables gone and stuff everywhere. I think what's upset her the most is her wedding ring being stolen (she is widowed). Needed to vent, just in an absolutely foul mood now. Such arseholes.
I'm so sorry....so often the damage is that which can't be seen. A friend of mine had to move because she lost all her confidence. I've often thought that victims of burglary should be escorted round to the criminal's house and allowed to take what they like and do what they'd like. All the best to your Nan.
That's awful DTLW! Happened to my wife before we got married and Fran is right it's not so much what is taken but the feeling your personal space has been violated. Hope she is OK.
You're right there. Been speaking to her, she says what is the worst is she nipped out of the house for 30 minutes or so. At 10am. So she feels like whoever did this, was or is, watching her. The whole neighbourhood is elderly so these people knew what they were doing in any case. Anyway, thanks for your well wishes.
Hmmm. She's pretty hot on that stuff normally. She seems more annoyed that the house is in a state than what has been taken (ring aside). The door has just been smashed to pieces, I can't even imagine returning to see that. Whoever it is left footprints but no finger prints though. Anyway, I'll let you get back to the match thread and come back later when I'm all grumbled out.
If caught the little ****s will probably get a caution. I've been burgled three times and boy does it still hurt. All our family heirlooms were stolen. I didn't care about the DVD player etc. but items with family connections are irreplaceable.
I feel very angry and upset and sorry for her and i dont even know your Nan. I guess that you can imagine it happening to youself. Football certainly takes a back seat when somebody like your Nan has had this done to her I just hope that she recovers from this and they catch the sods responsible - and if they catch them then deal with them meaningfully and not just a soft caution. Best wishes to your Nan anyway.
I'm trying to psyche myself up for the match and all the very lovely Mrs Godders is doing is walking about the house singing nationalistic Welsh anthems. She has cut a daffodil from the garden and pinned that to her coat and I have a feeling she may decide to leave the match early so she can get home in time to watch the rugby. I wouldn't mind but there is no sign yet of her having made my cheese sandwiches and flask of Bovril to take to the game. If she doesn't hurry up and do them soon we shall have to go without them and I shall be thirsty and hungry at half time. I'm despairing of her at the moment as since she joined that women's group at the university she keeps making me do things for myself. FFS she even told me to iron my own shirts the other day. I am surprised that she hasn't realised by now that the only reason I married her was so that she could do all those things my Mum used to do for me. So at today's match should you see a short whiskery half starved old man with a walking stick wearing an un-ironed shirt and suffering with dehydration it will probably be me.
What will you do for the next couple of hours, DTLW? Vin PS. Hope the scumbags get caught and, most importantly, that your nan realises that they aren't the norm.
I hope your nan is okay. I know if this happened to either of my grandparents I'd be fuming. Burglary is wrong in any case but stealing from the elderly is just beyond sick.
...a quick de-lurk. Had to post my commiserations DTLW - been through something similar myself, tell her you do get through it. Nobody can steal memories, and sooner or later the "people" who did it will get what is coming to them.
DTLW........ sorry to hear what has happened there does not seem much I can add that has not been said by someone else! Tell your Nan to keep her pecker up. Not easy, but the blessing is that she was not there at the time.
Think when arseholes like this are caught they should be hung by the bollocks from the cross-bar as pre-match entertainment. Am I being a tad harsh? Nah
