Is that the one with Leiv Schreiber and Jamie Bell in it and all? It was good. Band of Brothers pisses on the Pacific. And War Horse is just soppy ****e.
Oh shucks, you're being pernickety! Okay, maybe it just nudges the First Boer War by less than a year, but the Boers were pissed with us fron 1877 so lets use a bit of humourous licence; that is, unless you are determined to be a bore !
Just (re)watched Where Eagles Dare. Forgot how good a film it actually is. It's like a less-insane version of Inglorious Basterds (still my fave WW2 film)...
Dunno this bit could be in any Tarantino film. Eastwood kills about 60 on his own.
The Deerhunter had its moments, providing you're not squeemish...
Favorite movie scene EVER. The sheer scale and size of the scene is amazing.
Platoon...and I don't usually like Oliver Stone movies. But he nailed the tragedy of the Vietnam War with this one!!
Enemy at the Gates. One of my faves. All time it is Bridge on the River Kwai. Honorable mention for Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence.
A Bridge Too Far , The Longest Day and The Cross of Iron . Used to be spoilt for a descent war movie in the 70's and early 80's. Some of the more recent viewing such as Band of Brothers , Saving Private Ryan and Pacific have fantastic effects but you just can't beat the 70's stuff .
Three of my favourites are not very well known Bomber Harris - With John Thaw as Harris By Dawns Early Light - About a B52 Bomber crew sent to bomb Russia Twilights Last Gleaming- Burt Lancaster as a renagade General who takes over a ICBM Silo They occasionally pop up on the more obsure satellite film channels.
