Zulu, Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers are epic.

So many others worth a mention. Dambusters, Camp on Blood Island, From Here to Eternity,,Longest Day, Battle of the Bulge among them.

Some great films - just remembered "Kanal" a Polish film about resistance fighters in Warsaw who try to escape through the sewers. A really harrowing film.

One thing about Das Boot that is great too other than the series/film itself is that the dubbed version is just as good as the original as they used the German actors who actually played the roles to speak their lines in English. The bit where the engineer goes crazy is one of my favourite film scenes of any genre

Great film that, and i have been in the bar in Alex (Cecil Hotel) where that last scene was filmed and met the bar man in the film, who was still working there.

I do love this film but I don't ever consider it a war film, just one set in the war. I always look for the land rovers in the background when hey go into the bar.

Certainly a great film - definitely one of my favourite books and I never thought it could ever be made into a film. Made a pretty good job of it really

I know what you mean Mel, pity the bar man was Muslim and didn't drink, as he could have made a fortune people buying drinks for him.

Best war film - Apocalypse Now.

Best film set during a war - Schindler's List.

Special mention for The Boy In Striped Pyjamas.

Was struggling trying to decide between Apocolypse Now and Lawrence of Arabia and then I realised just how many times I have seen the beginning of my favourite film and thought I would just watch it for a while and then 3 hours later The Longest Day finished 'click click'.

Zulu may have snuck in but the war was a bit of a bore! <doh> <sorry>
